Well I stand corrected if people were really not joking about these shoes.

One thing I will concede is they have a certain look that will generate humour into any evening.

They do say that if you can make a lady laugh you're half way to the bedroom ..... frankly I believe that the wearers of such footwear must therefore be exhausted from satiating the lust of so many women that will be bent over with convulsions of mirth

cbfn: SoS is kind of right that they don't break in and become soft like a single-soled shoe.  But they do mould to your foot like any other quality welted shoe.  Combined with the traditional last shape, it makes them surprisingly comfortable.  Of course it feels different to wear them - taller, less flexible.  But not an unpleasant feeling at all.

Berners: I can only nod in modesty.

These are over the top rude. You should be banned.

No worse than I've said about horsebit loafers; each to their own.  But I'm funnier.  Probably.

Definitely funnier. And not a boorish, condescending jackass. That's two plusses for you right there.

I handled a pair for the first time IRL this weekend, while I was visiting Düsseldorf. I was at Tott (the shoe store). They were of a similar style as in the pics above. I would never buy a pair for personal wear. I would never consider stocking them in our shop. I do understand there's some kind of appeal to very clunky shoes and I do love meaty footwear myself...to an extent... but this is over the top for me. But this is just my personal opinion of course, each to his own.I wish I had the time to look at some of the less extreme styles they make but the shop was a bit disorganized (at least to me) and I was a bit put off by it to be honest.
