It looks similar but it's not quite the same. This is a better of the color/texture difference:

Oak Kudu vs Rosewood? happy.gif

I see the difference in the color variations on the older shoe versus the newer one looks more uniform in color.

I would expect that, to a certain extent depending on the different hides.

The texture looks similar in my eyes.

The texture is quite similar but even if you compare the sample from back in November it looks more similar to the old kudu versus the new stuff coming out.

If you take a look at the current kudu coming out, it doesn't have the same depth in color.

As it did in the past:

The oak kudu thorpes were supposed to be using the vintage kudu similar to the sample but it looks more like the CF Stead kudu to me. Perhaps i'm wrong though.

Great Kudu P0rn here today! Great to see.

I don't think GG would change the type of Kudu without telling us. Maybe it was just cut from the flanks. Depending on where on the skin you cut it from it will look different. But I'll have to double check with Dean.

Finally back from travel, so I got to open up my Enzo Bonafé Black Captoe Oxfords.  These are just fantastically sexy.

When I met Dean at the trunk show in NYC he said the kudu from another tannery was a few months out. They're using whatever Kudu is left for single MTOs.

Wow, very nice. Definitely some of the best I've seen and I love the black with flat laces. How's the fit?

That is true but it's not same kudu carmina & Alden uses.

I know someone that ordered a pair of kudu Thorpes in rosewood about a month ago and he asked where the kudu was from, they said it was from CF Stead. I spoke the G&G recently about the kudu and they said "The kudu we're using and have been using over the past few years has been from only two different tanneries."

Carmina uses CF Stead, Alden uses Horween which isn't really kudu but a waxy cowhide.

Here is what my carmina waxed kudu looks like:

Holy moly I had no idea about that one regarding Alden. But I have had seen carmina kudu in real life that's being posted in carmina thread. It's nothing like rose wood & oak kudu. I wouldn't have even guessed it a kudu beautiful shoe but looks nothing like gg or Antonio kudu.

It's quite confusing to me. The kudu they're using now is still quite nice, but I feel like it's a bit different from what it was before.

Here are some example of the Pebody kudu from different makers:

(from leather properties thread)

From 2009 by Lodger using charcoal kudu

I have 2 pairs of Enzo Bonafe on the way (should be here in a month or so) made from the Pebody kudu. I have a pair of the G&G oak kudu thorpes on the way as well. I'll be able to do a better comparison once I have all of them side by side.
