Just to start discussing preferences on the sole, my first preference is Dainite so the entire sole is covered. My understanding is with a Tomir sole that the mid part of the sole is exposed. Thoughts?

I would also say Dainite.

I'm interested as well in a more generous last for a split toe derby.  I'll stay tuned for details.

Sorry for any confusion - we are hoping to do another GMTO in the same boot but brown suede as introduced above. So far we have 4 it sounds like.

Yes we are trying to get a similar bal boot but in dark brown suede like RogerP's. Pics and specs below. Dark Brown Suede Bal Boot GMTO (Click to show)

@watchidiot is this suede bal different than the current offering on the Carmina website? http://www.shop.carminashoemaker.com/articulo.asp?idarticulo=3465222

Noix Suede is a tough sell. It looks great on, but people generally think it looks too yellow when presented in the shop or online.

Maybe we could all compromise and do Dainite 500? @Leaves do you have a definitive comparison photo between the 3 Dainite weights? I tried searching the thread but came up empty handed in the Dainite 500.

If we get the GMTO order in by Friday it'll be SEK3200 exl vat. After Friday there will be a 3% increase. In USD that's roughly anywhere between $380-400 + shipping.

I'll have to let this run until mid March, so new price will be 3520 SEK. Price for high boots has actually gone up more than regular shoes (+10%).

 (if persuaded)

If everybody agrees, we can star to ask @Leaves
which lasts (between Rain, Soller, Detroit or any other of they generous fitting lasts) Carmina is willing to use for model 80189 and if they can source hatchgrain in brown or dark burgundy

Confirmation pending on the Rain last and Hatch Grain.

I like Hatch Grain when G&G does it but they can take a lot more time with the burnish, that's not possible at Carmina's price point. They finish it by hand but the end result is very hard to predict, so you might end up with something much darker or much lighter than you'd expect and that's not ideal for a pre-order where everyone pays up front and we offer no returns. I'd hate ending up with people dissatisfied with their shoes because inconsistency in the coloring phase. We basically have the same problem with the hand finished Carmina Grain Jumper. This new batch that's incoming in March is the lightest one yet.

There is a dearth of competent resole craftsmen where I live and economics would suggest to me that the cost of resoling/ recraft and back and forth shipping can amount to up to 75% of the cost of a new pair of shoes, which in my book, I'd rather get a new shoe. Now, the guys are all quite capable of apply a topy or vibram sheet on the soles of the shoes and that cost me like $25 per pair, I wonder if I would be laughed out of the shop if I brought a Tomir soled shoe there suggesting such a proposition.

For a pair of Carmina, I would not bother sending them back to them for a resole. I mean, if you are a brick and mortar client and you can drop them off at our shop, then yeah it kinda makes sense, but to send them from North America to Spain and then back, with all the hassle with customs and stuff, I'd just take them to a good local cobbler.

Sorry if I missed this explanation.

The new MTO G&G surcharge is 2000 SEK ex VAT. The new MTO EG surcharge is 1600 SEK ex VAT.

@Leaves or @GabrielOB can you check with Carmina on availability of hatch grain leather?

The stock Carmina bal boots are on Forest and half rubber sole (that's Tomir I'm guessing). The proposed boot is on robert last with Dainite. Also not sure whether the brown in Carminas site is same to the dark brown used in RogerP boot. If they are the same the shoes IRL look so much better.
