I have both and the Shanklin is IMO a lot more "summery", lighter and more casual. The colours may not be that different but the feel definitely is. Holding the Shanklin, it feels very unstructured and floppy - it actually feels weird putting trees in a shoe like it. On the foot, however, I love it. And it's great for travel.

Thanks for the feedback.

@Leaves so the Shanklin is completely unlined then, do you suggest sizing down?

Would you say that EG coffee suede is similar to any GG suede? Just so that i know what to compare it too...

The Shanklin is going to be coffee suede.
Unless I misunderstood your question.

I came across this pic of a trio of Shanklins in my internet travels.

Indeed, i'll make the correction. My apologies...

I'd use my normal EG size for unlined Chukkas.

The Coffee Suede from EG is close to what many makers call Snuff Suede I guess. There are many examples in this thread under "recent images" of Coffee Suede, it's been very popular this past season.

I am somewhat between sizes in regards to EG, kind of right between 7.5 and 8. When I go 8 I can use an EG sock liner to take up a bit of the extra space. Given hat these are unlined and suede I went 7.5 as I know there will be some stretch

Leaves, any chance to stock a midnight blue austerity brogue (either EG or G&G) in the future?

Thank you!
No plans. But I'll never say never.

Yeah I think we all are overdue for something in midnight blue calf from either GG or EG.
GG Gable would look good in it I think.

whaaaaaat????

I promised myself i would stop getting shoes on the lighter side, i just don't have the wardrobe for it. My adventures with AE have killed the snuff suede infatuation for me, all i can think of now is potatoes. Please don't take my comments are disparaging, it's simply my aversion.

I'm sure people feel the same way about dark brown suede, which is the version i really want. I will have to order this one myself though, which considering the less expensive Shanklin price, MTO does not seem so bad. Now i just need to get comfortable with the idea of the 202 last, how does it compare to the AE 5 last toe shape...
