Hey @Leaves

if i find 8 simpson to be the best fit; how should I size in Rain?

I'd recommend moving down to UK 7.5. Most people size down half a size from Simpson to Rain. That's the general recommendation. If you need further fitting advice please e-mail [email protected] .

If Simpson fits you well, I don't recommend sizing down in Rain.

That's because the Simpson last accomodates low insteps and the Rain is appropriate for a high instep. If you have a low instep, your foot will be swimming in the Rain last and won't feel like a secure fit.

i think i'll probably end up doing 8uk judging from the pairs that i have. the only time i sized down was a pair of florsheim derbies. Even the meermin dbs that i have with their inca i'm doing an 8. it doesn't fit like the simpson, but i'm not exactly swimming in it either.

Most people, including Carmina vendors (Leaves, Steve, Unipair and The Armoury), recommend sizing down a half size when going from the Simpson to the Rain last. Othertravel is correct though, the Simpson fits completely different compared to the Rain last. I posted a comparison of the two in the Carmina sizing thread - might be worth checking out if you haven't seen a Rain shoe before.

Honestly if you wear simpson comfortably, you shouldn't wear rain.

One is narrow, one is wide.

Wear what fits your foot.

^ Agreed. After owning both, I find it hard to believe that both lasts can fit the same foot comfortably, even if you do size down.

Leatherfoot (to their credit) were clear that even sizing down in Rain wouldn't resolve the instep issue. The vamp is too high.

That said, I think it's a misconception that Simpson is a narrow last. I'm slightly wider than a "D", and it fits fine.

And to confirm, the other low-instep lasts are Forrest and Phila, correct?

Forest instep is not low, I'd say it's medium.
