Bummer. I feel your pain.

they're still using their "post" IIRC which is then dispatched to Canpost. I think until we hear of more frequent duty/HST charges we should assume that dj's last delivery was random.

Maybe Roger can chime in, last I heard he had been safe for last 10 deliveries or so?? No sure about recent though.

I've read other cases of getting hit with duties and such with USPS and other gubment postal service deliveries, so it's really a matter of rolling the dice.

Got hit for customs for the Polo Suede boot as well. First time for any national post service.

^^ For the US and Canada we ship with Posten (government operated carrier) by default. FedEx is priority only.

Canada has an import tax and GST, adds up to about the same amount as Swedish VAT (25%). So you are paying about the same amount as an EU zone resident, if you are hit by customs.

US clients only pay an 8.5% import tax, no sales tax AFAIK, so you are still paying way less than a brick and mortar store client or EU client, if you are hit by taxes.

Well technically you are supposed to pay use tax on top of duties in many states. This is voluntary compliance though and many people don't volunteer.

Fack, I hope not! My Polo suede sailed through unscathed, thankfully. Probably because I have Gabriel affix a sticker to the package that reads "These aren't the droids you're looking for."

My understanding is that in the old days footwear industry was considered to be of national importance and many countries had import tariffs/duties on footwear to protect their domestic manufacturers. Why do we still have that tax today?
I figure our cousins to the North must be even more pissed off. Canada had a footwear industry but to my knowledge there are no Canadian footwear maker that produce man dress shoes.

^^^ Don't even get me started on the punitive (18%!!!) duties to protect a largely non-existent Canadian footwear industry.
