Let's start thinking about summer... - Page 10

It's all about Tommy Hilfiger shirts for me this summer - I got some stock in for the boyswear store (2-16yrs) and became immediately green with envy. Have since ordered man sizes... just for me!

Yea I have a love hate relationship with shorts. I only have athletic shorts I wear to the gym, hiking, playing sports, etc. Every summer I tell myself I need some shorts but I never buy them. Maybe it's because I have skinny calves. I think it doesn't look right when you wear a tank top with jeans sometimes.

I have the same issue with skinny calves, but I also live in Texas, which feels like the surface of the sun in the summer. Well, actually that would be a better comparison if the surface of the sun had 100% humidity.

I used to be the same way about shorts. Denim is still my true love but I refuse to suffer through SoCal summers any longer. If you take the time to go out and find shorts that arent so baggy, youll see that they dont make your calves look so skinny. And as long as you get some color in your skin it will look fine

Also, lightweight chinos are your friend.

Really, this is true. The narrowness of your calves will already be amplified by the material above your knee not being paired with material below the knee. Basically, it jumps from a wide trunk to a narrow trunk. If you decrease the difference in diameter, by choosing narrower, but not overly slim, shorts, it will look better.

Any suggestions for slim fitting poplin button front shirts?

When it's hot I don't layer with a v-neck or blazer, so solid white and light blue get too boring.

Medium blue gingham?
Some kind of check pattern?
Subtle stripes?

What else are your go-to lightweight buttondown shirts. Oxford cloth is too heavy, and I'm not a huge fan of linen since it's so wrinkly and transparent.

Can anyone recommend some slimmer fitting shorts for $40 and under?

Uniqlo twill shorts for $19.90

Size up 1 or 2 depending how much room you need in the seat.

The only shorts I saw for 19 on the uniqlo site were the UPC stretch shorts:

I was going to go TTS (31) in navy, do you recommend sizing up one?

picked up some jcrew chino shorts to last me through the summer. now i just need to find a good undershirt that i can wear as a t-shirt and buy in bulk. thinking a 6-pack of the stafford undershirts. anyone have any experience with them? they have cotton, poly/cotton, and pima models. just need beaters. hows the sizing/length? want more of a classic cut

you guys should just get trousers at thrift stores and turn them into shorts.
yes and yes those are the shorts.

If you are skinny guy go TTS otherwise size up 1 at least. I need a 33 after trying a 32.

Can everyone please stop this MacGyver, just-turn-pants-into-shorts bullshit?  You're not clever, and you don't get points for unnecessary innovation.  Seriously, stop.  You all look like a bunch of assholes.

@DerangedGoose - The Gap has some nice, slim-fitting shorts with a ticket price just under $40.  Try them out in store and order online.  Promo code GAPEGG for 30% off.  You can order two and return the second one to get free shipping (which is only given for orders over $50).  I haven't worn anything from The Gap since grade school, but these shorts are legit.

I've been trying to avoid J Crew, but their 9" club shorts may be decent.  They're only sold online, so the recommendation is somewhat of a conjecture.  I tried on a pair of 11" club shorts in store and the fit was on point, although they were about two inches too long for my taste.  They cost ~$70, so you might not be interested.
