I don't think most SF folks like John Lobbs newly branched out direction. But their target audiences are probably under represented on this forum.
JL will continue to make and sell shoes, Paula Gerbase will continue to get paid more than many on this forum and SF members will continue to buy shoes. Life goes on.

Can we let this "new design direction" thing rest and continue appreciating the shoes?

(JL will continue to make and sell shoes), I honestly hope they do! they do not make automobiles so lets hope they can carry on making shoes!

(Paula Gerbase will continue to get paid more than many on this forum), not sure who this is but anyway good luck with their earnings.

(and SF members will continue to buy shoes. Life goes on) Of course!

(Can we let this "new design direction" thing rest and continue appreciating the shoes? ) This is most important but there is really nothing to appreciate in plimsolls! with the company's rich heritage was this the best they can offer now!

I put up this post because last Friday I was out for diner with my wife and when we passed by the shop and found these plimsolls in the window, we were shocked with horror! I did not even feel I wanted to go in the shop! I wonder if Mr Lobb would turn in his grave if he saw the new collection!

Anyway, no hard feelings towards anyone and I wish the company the best of luck for the future.

Sure, but all the good styles are already appreciated by now.

How good is the Lopez loafers compared to like the ones from Crockett and Jones? I really want to pull the trigger on the one from Mr Porter. Does it run True to size compared to the JL Oxfords 8000 and 7000 last?

The Lopez is my favorite RTW loafer. Much nicer than loafers I've had from Crockett and Jones with respect to finish and quality. Price reflects this though. I don't wear RTW JL other than the Lopez so I'm afraid I can't give you sizing advice.....

That is nice to know... I want to wear the Lopez casually everyday you think that will be too rough for the shoes?

Shoes look better when they are worn and not pampered. Every day is never good for them though. My advice is not to wear the same pair of shoes on consecutive days, and avoid wearing more than 2-3 times a week if possible.

:( What is a good loafer I can wear everyday casually after work? Something durable and classy? Any advice?

I wear sneakers without socks most time when I'm not at work. I just thought maybe I just get myself a Lopez to wear everyday since its casual enough. And just roll with it on my days off. Isn't that what loafers are for? I just wanted to know how the Lopez handles the daily wear or if they are like all other JL shoes. But then again $1300 is alot for shoes.

Saphir and dark brown misty calf...do you use light, middle or dark brown polish?

I always use a shade of cream slightly lighter. Really love how it refreshes the look. I experimented with the darker shades but it tends to change the appearance of the original leather too much. So, If you like the colour of your shoes exactly as they are, you should always use a cream slightly lighter ( for DBM you can go with mid brown as well as light brown). I would go with the middle dark brown as the light could be too anemic actually ..
