Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
LL

If one already owns many pairs of shoes, go with #1 in the same shade or darker brown plain calf.  The full cross over medallion pattern gives a subtle effect of a cap toe.  This is a special detail that only the owner/wearer would know but others will have to pay close attention to notice.  The shoe will distinguish itself from other more common ones (eg. plain toe oxford, floating medallion etc).

English toe plates sounds more utilitarian

I've said this before, I'd get Meccariello to make it for you (Cataline model?). I've had the 2009, and whilst it was one of my favourite Lobbs, it is blobby and unrefined compared to the Meccariello.

I like mine better.  :p

But that said, 2009's short and rounded wing tip will appear more like a cap toe from afar with elegant depth of color.
