I'm sure that is the reason for their being factory seconds.

I would imagine that pattern is identical on both feet. No particular markings that are specific to one side. Probably just put the wrong upper on the wrong last.

Pattern is the same on both feels. Probably because the upper closer mixed up and put them in the wrong stacks and the last machine operator didn't catch that

Shoe uppers are traditionally marked for left and right by cutting a little notch into the lasting allowance at the vamp. That notch, which cannot be seen in the finished shoe, is always placed on the inside.

If I wear 8965 last in 6E,

will 5.5E in 7000 last fit me well?

I'm talking about this Philip II here

Have you found out about the fit?

Okay so I was at the John Lobb Trunk Show in SF yesterday and today and tried on lots of lasts, primarily 8000 and 7000.

I am 100% a US 8D.

7000 Last fits true to size, as in one size down. So if you are US 8D, you will be UK 7E.

8000 Last is fairly true to size as well....however I noticed the heel cup tends to be slightly wider than 7000.

A few important notes I should mention about JL monk shoes, since I love them haha:

-If you plan on getting the Chapel...it's doesn't fit very tight, it's a roomy fit because of how the double parallel monk straps are cut. Also it only goes to the middle whole, not the third hole. (It's possible to go 1.5 size down instead of the normal 1 size down on the Chapel model).

-Single monk designs...Jermyn III, Coast (wow the Coast is soooo beautiful!!!! and the buckle design is genius by removing the leather strap), are a lot closer fit than the Chapel and more like laces than the Chapel. Reason being is one..7000 Last, and second.. the cut design forces the vamp to kind of stretch to close on the buckle...which I like a lot.

-Jermyn III's buckle design, while looks cool...has some issues with customers getting the strap through the buckles, because of the triangle point at one end.

If anyone has any more questions, primarily on the 7000 or 8000 lasts, JL monk/buckle shoes, feel free to ask me.

How chiseled is the 8000 last? Can you compare to another brand?

Not that chiseled. Not as hard as say GG TG, Deco, Anthony Cleverly's, etc.

8000 is very "round square toe"...pretty much the same as Antonio's Aurum "round square" last

Thanks for sharing!  wondering if you may recommand JL sizes on 7000/8000 lasts?

I have rather small heel and usually have poor heel grip. I wear EG 82last 5.5E, saint crispin's classic last 5F (a bit snug in fore foot), Loake's capital last 5.5F (a bit loose but doing fine with thin insoles), and tried GG''s MH71 last monk in size 6E which has significant heel slip.

BTW, is coast a new model in JL? not much pictures on internet.

Much thanks!

I Would go for UK 5.5E on both 8000 and 7000. I feel 7000 accommodates smaller heels better.

Personally I have skinny heels and feel 7000 has closer heel cup. Note, there will be some tiny gap at the heel in JL shoes, but once you wear them enough and the soles starts to bend, it will be good.

Also if you have rlly skinny heels, I would recommend the Anthony Cleverly range from GJ Cleverly. The last (only one) is perfect for skinner heels (like myself).

The Coast I think is sold out RTW already because it's a seasonal design for winter 2015. BUT..you can still do MTO for it.

Btw, do you know your US size?

thanks for prompt reply!

I don't really know my size in US, can't find a brannock measurement machine, however, I was measured in a store on a C&J measure board and the staff told me I was UK5.5D.

Do you mean that Anthony Cleverly last have significantly slimmer heel cup?

Yep, the heel cup is slim, works rlly well for my feet. I love the last. There are some pictures of the AC sole online. Look at how slim the heel part of the sole is.
