Just want to know what everyone thinks of it.

It is actually quite heroic cutting.

There are the sides which are cut without a back seam: just one piece of leather, wrapped around the heel and closed with a short skin-stitched seam at the toe. Then the apron and tongue piece is laid-on and stitched-in by hand.

So, the entire boot consists of just two pieces.

It looks...underwhelming.

I am new to the brand but have always admired the St. Crepin range . Can you elaborate on how the pre-2010 St. Crepins are superior to this?

Ankle boots are hardly the most exciting style but for what it is a I think it is a nice design. I agree with other posters though - at this price point there are better options.

I agree.

A nice design and the workmanship looks top notch.

If the St. Crepin looked like the Jodhpur ii or Deauville or Edward Green St. James boots....I would buy one at any price (well under 10k haha).

Look up the JL 2009 St. Crepins. Those are probably the best ones in the last 10 years or so (also one of the more expensive ones with retail close to $2000). The 2010's were pretty good also.

Thanks for that.

The 2009 St. Crepin is very nice and would no doubt be most people's preference (mine included). I'm not sure that the 2015 model is inferior in any way though - it looks a complex makeup and well executed.

If you admire the EG St. James boot and would be willing to pay top money for a pair have you considered their Top Drawer line?

Excellent.

I phoned their factory earlier this week with a view to a potential Top Drawer order. The manager (Hilary) is on holiday and nobody could answer my query until her return on 26th January. You may also have to wait for her return.

How does the top drawer program work?  How much better are they compared to normal EG?  I love the Chelsea oxfords do they make these on top drawer?

I believe the top drawer has nicer leather (they get first pick of available hides), finish, and the sole treatment is diff (fiddleback or whatever you want to call it).
They are by request and as such the pricing can vary slightly by retailer, s8nce thry may set diff prices. The MSRP that EG suggests is usually double the MSRP of their normal models (i.e nl chelsea is 1220, TD starts at 2400 and up).
i would assume it would be easier to go through a retailer to let them communucate with EG central and you may also get more favorable price than EG central.
All the above is for customers ordering from USA, not sure about pricing outside of USA and ordering from EG directly.

wooohooo!! My JL Chapel Dark Brown Museum arrived! I bought from the NYC store since they can install metal tips. A few things I noticed:

-The leather smells pretty good haha
-Immaculate detail/quality, even the metal plates are perfectly recessed and rounded.
-The Dark Brown Museum calf is kinda reddish....i likey!

and....

-did JL change their branding? the logo is differant and the box and bags are purple, not yellow now.

Yes, they changed the logo and color scheme from their new creative director.
