Personally I think EG beats the JL in boot compartment. Also in derby. What JL has better is the leather and perhaps Oxford shoes.. IMO ofc.

+1. Although the JL Chambord II >>> EG Halifax.

Lobb for me is a bit pricey considering the extra $500 really means beveled waistes. I love the phillip II and luffield among other offerings. I prefer a traditional look that EG seems to do better IMO on the whole when compared to Lobb. I also believe that the ease of the EG mto makes them a more attractive buy. Warming completely anecdotal statement: i find EG to be better than JL main line. More attractive lasts and models. The museum calf doesn't really do it for me either. I will say JL plum smokes EG's burgundy.

Agree with all of the above. One thing I have to say is that the JL leather options are amazing. Both exhaustive, and very high in quality. Certain JL models are classics like the Lopez.

If you mean better in quality, I disagree. I find them comparable. If you mean better in terms of lasts and models, I mostly agree; however, JL's main line has various models on the 7000 last. For those models, I would tend to prefer JL over a comparative EG model. JL's museum calf is great if its not too blotchy. JL's misty calf is an all around safer bet IMO. I have both JL's plum museum and EG's burgundy antique. I like them both. Plum museum is much darker, and is closer to EG's nightshade.

Just seems to be less enthusiasm here for John Lobb vs Edward Green. I'm not completely surprised as there wasn't even a thread until I started it and the EG thread had existed long before that. There also doesn't seem to be many retailers who are affiliates with SF who sell JL. Kind of makes me wonder what their overall sales are compared to EG. Is this just a lack of enthusiasm on SF or are they less popular even outside SF?

John Lobb thread does not get traffic as John Lobb do not offer MTO or GMTO in different permutations of last, pattern, and leather, whereas EG, G&G, or even Meermin and Carmina offers a lot of group ordering opportunities for unique make ups.

On the retail side, JL is much more established and higher-end than EG or G&G

It's puzzling to me how little traffic this thread gets compared to the EG thread.

At least today this thread seemed to get a fair amount of traffic. Not only did it get some traffic I think I learned a thing or two. So thank you sir, for starting this discussion.

@sftg correct I was referring to lasts and overall aesthetics. Truthfully for me it mostly comes down to a preference. I was unaware that JL used the 7k last for anything other the prestige line. JL like EG has the ability to turnout some great looking shoes. Cleves captoes come to mind. I used the term better because it is subjective in this case, better for me means pleasing to my eye. Quality even between the EG and JL prestige is splitting hairs like comparing a ferrari to a lambo

I own a number of both brands and my preference towards EG are due to 1, last fit, and 2, preference for crust leather. JL has "sleeker" and cleaner lines and excellent designs; however, the fit for EG is excellent and I like the patina that develops with crust leather.

Both are great and I do agree that EG does make better boots. Also, with JL's MSRP prestige price is comparable to EG MTO with trees, the decision isn't too hard.

Anyway, don't really like the black shoes just like the rest of the crowd here, but I think my recently broken in Lopez in Black are serving just fine for the weekend casual night out ..

It's to bad too. I really like my Williams II. Just not the fan base here like EG and some others. For the reasons mentioned already I guess.

I don't think I've seen one with a single, but I have seen them one some pretty chunky rubber soles however (SAR).

Plum is the color of a full glass/bottle of wine. Claret is the color of a puddle of red wine on top of a glass-top table.

Or Plum is darker than Claret, which is darker than chestnut.

Both plum and claret have a hint of red hue.
