Jackets: Button rule questioned.

Guarantee that would look better buttoned correctly. Even great dressers do some questionable things.

Maybe it was an accident. As if, when nonchalantly leaning onto something, the top button became askew, and he decided that it was better to appear in poor taste than to appear clumsy.

My guess is that Barbera's sport coat is from his own line, and that its button stance is therefore higher than he's used to from his bespoke jobs (the buttoning point does look very high), which in turn compels him to button the bottom instead of the upper button. Or he's just sprezzing ...

(+1 on this not being a good look, by the way.)

+1, especially if pulling it off means "everything else looks great so this is (partially) forgiven."

Maybe this nice elderly gentleman buttoned the top button and then realized the tip of his tie stuck out underneath
