Crotch blowout on both my pairs Think I'm gonna get some 501 STFs, APC has disappointed me
post #7577 of 12956
^^^ unless you can try on your your STF pair & know that they'll fit after shrinkage, I'd try something else. Levi's are hard to predict (although you can always shrink them in the tub while wearing them). 3sixteen maybe? anyways, has anyone noticed any permanent shrinkage in the knee region following multiple soaks? my Rescue's knees are very baggy, constrain a little bit after a soak, then I believe they've returned to normal volume.

Well, there is enough info out there + they are cheap enough that I'd be willing to take a gamble. I bike a bit during the summer and that is what is nuking the crotches of these jeans. I actually have an old pair that I just sized wrong... I've lost some weight since then so I think I can go for a smaller size now. Gonna check them out at lunch

Oh shit! Duh I'm such an idiot.

There's no tension, if there is it's pretty neglible so I should be OK.
At least these weren't like RRL's or something...I would've been pissed if a $300 pair of jeans didn't fit.

mmm..I have a pair of N&F that are pretty beat up too around the crotch area. There's actually a rip inside my left thigh and I'm debating whether I should patch them up or do something else with them.

aside:

Does anyone know when to deem a pair of jeans unwearable?

Thankfully I'm in NYC so I will prob just take them to Denim Therapy But I think I'm gonna leave biking for the STFs. Sad that relatively heavy denim gets wasted with shitty seams. I'm hoping the STFs will be able to withstand bikery

^ Get preemptive reinforcement done if you're biking.

my ps were tight in the legs and very slightly large in the waist. this hasnt changed because there is no tension on the waistband, and thighs dont seem to stretch much on ps. with a belt they are fine. as others have said, you'll probably be ok.

Upon reading this thread and another one about APC denim care, I realized maybe getting a comfortable size wasn't such a good idea because of the amount of stretching APC jeans have been known to do. So here's my problem; is there a way to ensure the jeans will still fit me (I do not like baggy jeans nor am I a fan of skinny jeans) 2 or 3 weeks from now?

I read something about throwing them in the dryer to make them shrink. What effects does this method have on the denim's color if any?
Your help is greatly needed and appreciated.

Well I've had my APCs for 2 weeks and yesterday, a bird flew by and dropped a few drops on my jeans. I'm not entirely sure it was poop, but then I wasn't white green, nor yellow. It was just black. I have wiped it off right after the incident, so now I'm wondering if I should wash them, or just wear them for the 6 months. There isn't any stains or anything noticeable on the jeans, so I don't know what to do. I have 3 options, dry clean them, machine wash them, or just go on wearing them. They don't smell like poop.

Just wanted to share my stretching technique that I recently used on a stubborn pair of Petite Standards. For reference, I am a 32 waist but have really big thighs, about 25", so I sized down one to 31's and then went about stretching the 11.25" thighs out to about 12.5". My method was basically to roll up bath towels into about 26" rolls and then stuff them down each leg until they achieved maximum tension--forcing them in as hard as I possibly could--then I took the pants and put them into a "splits" position (to maximize the stretch on the crotch inseam and maintain the tension in both legs) and stuffed them under a bed mattress with the waist opening facing up. I then put a heavy box on top of the mattress for a few hours, and every so often went in and bounced up and down--gently, mind you, so as not to rip anything--on the mattress to work the denim a bit. After letting them sit for about 5 hours in that position, I flipped them inside out and repeated the entire process. Once I was done letting them sit for another 5 hours, I took them out and voila--comfy jeans for my thunder thighs.

What in the name jesus is wrong with you? A bird shit on your pants, do what any other sane person would do and WASH THE DAMN THINGS. I've washed my APCs a few times, the fadzzz are still coming in fine. How do people enjoy life when they spend all their time worrying about when they should wash their clothes? Fuck me.

As an owner of both...I like my APC's better. They have the promise of better fades than N&F IMO. Plus the price points are like this; N&F = $145ish; APC = $175ish; pay the difference for a better jean. The search button is your friend, my friend.

mmm...I am nonplussed by your dilemma. How big is the area of interest? If it's small then you could try spot cleaning. Post a pic or something man. Give us something to work with!
