Am I doing something wrong in measuring, or did they all just stretch out like hell? I'm measuring exactly where I want my jeans to fit on the hip, not the waist, and I don't have any layers on to make the measurment innacurate (only fairly thing boxers).

Jeans are often vanity sized, so they are actually bigger than what their waist size is. This is the case with the APCs, which are more than 2" bigger in the waist than they should be. Jeans also stretch, which APCs do an immense amount as well. Non-APC jeans will also stretch, but not as much.

And if I'm going for APC NS (two sizes down), assuming I'm W31 without mistake, would a W28 or W29 be preferable for a slim fit look? (But not skinny look!) And aside from hemming, I heard a hot soak (for how long?) can shrink it by maybe .5" to 1". Can anyone confirm this?
I would go with the 28, personally. Even if it is tight to start out with, it will stretch a ton. I think it will probably fit fairly well right out of the box, though. APCs will shrink a bit if you soak them but you don't have to because they're sanforized. I would hem them so that you have 2-3" of extra material to be safe from shrinkage and to have a little stacking.

Hey guys, question about Rescues:

Was thinking of grabbing a pair, but unfortunately, the store in Seattle that carries APC doesn't have Rescues in stock. My question is this:

If I'm a 36 in RB6's, would a 33 in Rescues work for me? I'm looking for pretty roomy relaxed in my denims too. Or would 34 be better?

Thanks for all the help, looking forward to my first pair of APC's, heard a lot of good thing about them!

I'd grab 33s. Rescues are cut VERY generously and stretch a lot too.

Hey guys, I've been wanting to try some introductory dry/selvedge denim for awhile and I've been looking at APC. Currently I wear jeans from Earnest Sewn, Paper Denim, an Diesel, but I'm looking to try something new hopefully with suggestions from you guys. Anyways, as far as cuts, I prefer something with a slight bootcut, but I realize APC doesn't make anything like that so anything apart from tapered would be good. I tend to have really big calves and I don't want anything that will tightly fit around them. In terms of sizing, I wear sz 32 Diesel, and 33 Earnest Sewn. One of the jeans that have stretched out and fit me to my liking measure about 16" across (with dip) and 17" (aligned), have a 31" inseam, 11.5" thigh, and 8.5" leg opening...I realize APC's do stretch, but what size should I get to initally achieve something with a similar fit? Also, any suggestions in term of the cut would be greatly appreciated! I like neither tight nor baggy, but something in the middle.

Also, in terms of NS and Rescues, how do these two differ in terms of sizing and the actual cut? Also, I noticed on the APC site that the back pockets on the Rescues are said to hang lower to give a baggier look...is this true? If so, it's a huge turn-off for me.

Go with new standards in a 28 or 29. I measure 32.5" where my jeans sit and my 29 waist new standards are too big for me now

I was gonna suggest this, but he said he doesn't want tapered jeans. The New Standards are definitely tapered.

Ah, must have missed that bit. Yes they are tapered but worn with the right footwear they do tend to look straight at least to my eyes.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think a slight taper would be alright as long as it tapers far down close to the hem because i don't want the calves to be very tight since mine are pretty big. Will this be a problem? I wear sz 32 in Diesel and 33 in Earnest Sewn...are you sure I'll be okay with 29 in New Standard??? It seems a bit small, but I'm not familiar with APC sizing. o_O Also, I know the Rescues are not tapered but are they "baggy" jeans? I'm not a fan of baggy so are my only choices to go with the New Standards?

Rescues are not baggy if sized down properly and they will fit your calves.

Honestly, and I'm sure you probably don't want to hear this... with APC in particular, I'd try them on before buying. You want to find the size that fits you perfectly right away, then buy a size smaller. Failing that, make sure you order from somewhere with a decent exchange policy.

I know it sounds hard to believe, but sizing down 2 from your "normal" size is the way to go with New Standards. With Rescues, I would very seriously consider sizing down 3, though it's been a couple years since I actually tried on a pair of Rescues, and for all I know they brought it a little more in line with the rest of their cuts. Though I doubt it.

This is good advice. If you cannot try them on, go for the 29s. You want it to be as tight as hell, but still able to (barely) button them. Expect them to be uncomfortable for awhile. I sized down 2 on my pair but wish that I sized down 3. They stretch like crazy but will not become baggy. They just stretch where they are tight on you and will become form fitting.
