@masshi

Thanks for the input.  Yeah my upper body does look a bit bulky compared to the lower with them jeans on, so I'll see about getting my hands on some NS 28 or size up one on the shown pair.  I noticed you said Rescues but these are actually New Cure ;)

In regards to the the Cure not showing the selvedge--I don't mind it as I don't cuff and have my jeans hemmed.

thanks masshi for the advice man!

oh yeah my bad about the misnaming haha

also, though you might have to wait another day or so since this thread is kinda slow (alternatively you could also ask in the beginner's jean thread), I think it'd help to get some others' input on the fit, too, since I'm far from an expert

like, now that I look at the fit again, I can't decide whether maybe just keeping what you have now would be good

I think they fit you quite well actually.
I think your upper body is accentuated due to the tight fitting sweater.
I fear that if you sized up in the current jeans, they would wear out to be too loose.

These actually fit well all over, I'd say keep them.

Side note, how did you find the New cure differed in fit from the NS?

(Pardon me, accidentally quoted the wrong post!)

The tight-fit sweater looks to be accentuating your upper body more than the jeans, I'd say.

Honestly, I'd say grab the NS - way more of a natural fit and as they age the leg can shrink in a bit due to the salt from sweat, etc.
Just a thought! I've had PS and NS and it's better to be comfortable and get results after wearing than laboring through it.

Hey Eric Michael,

Thanks for the input.

In regards to your question, I found the NS to be quite baggy in the top block and especially through the thighs.  Size 29 NS was the smallest they had in the store, so I think a 28 might work for me but the only way for me to find out is to order it from Nordstrom's website.

In comparison, I really like how the New Cure fit my hips and butt, however I do have a bit of reservation about the cut from the knee down.  The measurements is 7" for both the knee and the leg opening, which means that it might look a bit too flared for my liking.  One remedy is to have the tailor hem and taper but I'm not 100% certain that's the route I want to go to get the cut I like the best.  I really wanted to like the PS and PNS but with my height (5'-4") and relatively bulky upper body, I was afraid of the narrow leg opening of said fits exacerbating it.  Masshi had a good point about the NC bringing a bit of attention to my thicker upper so I might just get both the NC size 29 and NS size 28 to see which one fits the best overall.

So, based on my brief experience at the store with these fits, the NS would probably be best downsized one from your best fitting NC or PS pairs.

I think people have been doing it wrong for quite too long.

Stopped by the APC store in SoHo, it was very fitting since this was the first raw denim I ever owned 4 years ago. Since then, I've owned a wide array of Japanese denim with Samurai being my favourite and now finally going back with a pair of APC in PS with only one size down.

It's only going to stretch as much as you're sizing down. Obviously when you force yourself 2-3 sizes down with top button barely going on, it's going to stretch a lot. If you size down 1, it's not going to stretch a lot. The more pressure you're pushing against the denim, the more it's going to stretch. It's common sense.

The only reason you would size down imo it's for a smaller opening. If you're somewhat athletic, with decent thighs from biking, exercising etc. you really shoudln't be sizing down that much.

After owning 19 oz, 21 oz, I'm very happy to go back to a nice cut, minimalistic, light weight denim found in the APC PS.

Cool, that sounds about right.
I bet the NS 28 would be great... I personally don't find it looks too flared, but the leg might be better for you (and your upper half) than the NC, which looks a little more tapered.
But if you can get the 28 NS, and they fit well through the thigh, they should create a really nice & cut silhouette through the legs which may help to make you look a bit taller (speaking as a short-to-average height person myself, I always looks to try and remedy that). I often find straight cut jeans that fit really well through the thigh and are hemmed properly, cut a daring figure and help lengthen your silhouette.
Best of luck!

those look like the right fit

I measured my belly and it is 36 inches.  That is right at my belly button.  I am 34 under my belly.

How many inches do you size down from your actual waist size?

Your actual waist is two inches below your belly button. I would go max 2 sizes down.

But really, sizing down is not relative to your waist. It's relative to your thighs.

You can tell from the above user, he went way too far with a Size 29 because it looks too tight around the thighs and knees area.

That's more important. The more you size down, the more you're going to force the denim to stretch.

It makes no sense.

yes, but only to a point. jeans have a max amount of how much it will stretch. surely sizing down 3 on a pair won't make it larger by 4 size or something. so I don't get what you're trying to say.

I'm not sure why it's hard to understand. I would say with APC you can stretch close to 3 inches on the waist. You size down 3, you're going to stretch it to the maximum.

You size down 1, you're going to stretch it by 1 inch.

You should be sizing with priority to how it fits at your thighs while taking into consideration to your waist size. I see far too many people sizing down way too much with the thighs being too tight.
