Dooble

'm a size 30 waist, and skinny 20" thighs. I bought APC ND s28 and they were really tight for the first couple days where I could barely walk. 3 days later, they're stretched to the point the jeans flare out from the back and my ass looks visibly baggy even from the front. Thighs are very roomy. I f*cked up my first denim purchase, haha.

Is it normal for there to be too much "bunching up" behind the knee and around the thigh before breaking in a new pair causing them to seem like high waters for a little bit? Will they soften up and then go to normal length?

yea its stiff when its new

Well never mind of the bunching up, I had a sneaking suspicion that they were shorter than they were supposed to be, I remember my old PS not being that short from stiffness. Sure enough lined up the legs to compare inseam and my new pair of NS is like 2 inches shorter atleast. Fucking Nordstrom sold me hemmed pair confused.gif Now I gotta return them....Guess that's what happens when Nordstrom offers free hemming once you buy them and when you don't pay attention when buying....

I think it was said not all APCs are 34" inseam anymore. It's only like size 30 and up or something. Other people can probably confirm. What size did you get?

I just got an A.P.C. New Standard in size 28. I am new to raw denim. I ordered the NS in 28 and 29. The 29 fit nicely and looked great, but the 28 was uncomfortably tight in the seat and hard to button. Based on everything I've read about these stretching, I'll be returning the 29 and keeping the 28.

Here is what I really want to know:

I am planning to get the jeans shortened a couple inches, just enough so that I have the option of cuffing them. Is it important to soak before doing this, since they will eventually shrink after washing? Will this make them temporarily tighter? Will it interfere significantly with the fading process?

Regardless of soaking, should I break them in some before hemming due to concern for stretching increasing the length significantly? This could be hard as I don't really want to wear them out with the cuffs like this.

Thanks!

i havent bought apc jeans in over 5 years, sorry for another sizing question (search function doesnt work well when all the different model names use the same words):

the New Standards fit me well in sz 32, size 31 in NS was snug but still wearable. what size should i get in the "Petite new standard" model for a comfortable fit?

edit: im generally a true size 34

break them in, then decide how much you want to hem.

I sent my NS to DenimTherapy when they were brand new. I couldn't wait to break them in while the jeans were about 6 inches too long. I would never wear them if that were the case. I measured them as carefully as I could then added about a 1/2 inch (just in case). I am waiting to get them back. In the meantime, I just received another pair purchased of NS from Tres Bien (one size smaller). Once I get the first pair back from Denim Therapy and see how they fit, then I will send in the next pair.

The two pair cost me about $260 from Tres Bien since you don't pay the VAT so the first pair cost $150. Upon receipt of the first pair, they sent me a coupon and I got the second pair for $110. Not bad, especially since the price for these jeans went up to $185 a while back.

Why? For fades, contrast and whatnot? I have read tons and tons and tons now on raw denim and I came to a couple of conclusions: 1) If jeans are unsanforized you'll end up soaking them on the first wear and they seem to do well with fades and whiskering so why not go ahead with sanforized denim like APC? 2) Most of the posts that I have seen from people who stand by the no-wash-unless-necessary tend to all blow out their crotch/knees/seat in the first year (which to me seems detrimental to the whole raw denim lasts longer theory), as soaking the denim softens the fibers and makes them stronger. 3) I like a nice pantina on my Les Paul's, not my pants, some dude's jeans looked like they were rubbed in wax crazy.gif

For what it is worth my inseam on a pair of tagged 32 NS measures 35" exactly. I doubt that anyone would have hemmed them .5"

Ahhhh, that explains it, thank you! I lost weight since my last pair, which were 33s, and my new pair is now a 31. We still held up my returned hemmed pair to another of the same size and they were shorter so I wasn't completely crazy.
