So I am into 1.5 months of regular wear of my APC New Standard. So far the jeans are still kinda stiff and a little bit uncomfortable to wear. Would they ever get soft and comfortable? I feel like I am getting no where with these jeans.

louis w. apc ferris army jacket looks like a nicer bomber though. It is quite similar to the TOJ in that it uses nice super 120s wool outer shell.

I ordered a size 30, which has an 11 inch thigh, 8 inch knee, and 7 inch leg opening. Once I got them I brought them to a reliable tailor and got the knee brought in a little bit. I got it taken down to 7.7 inches, which you would think not make a huge difference but it really does. I would say doing this would be your best bet if you want to get a pair of APC's.

How long have you been wearing them for, and how has the stretch been?

1.5 months is nothing. Keep wearing them and you'll get there!

Groves, context's measurements are pretty accurate. But since they changed it it, my 27's are the 28 measurements. Don't know if the vanity size changed our not .

27 PS with a month of wear. Tts is like 29
Waist aligned 15
thigh @ crotch 10.75
Knee 7.25
Hem 6.25

You might be able to get the waist to stretch. I wear a belt and dont want it to stretch much more. Hopefully those measurements can help you get your size

I apologize in advanced, I know there are a lot of denim loyalists in this forum that I might offend. I just bought my first pair of APCs, my first pair of raw selvedges period actually, and I had a question. What happens if I was the denim immediately? I know its uncommon, but I dont wish to get the stacks, honeycombs, etc. I want the jeans to fit well and remain dark, but will they if I wash them? I guess my plan at this stage is to wear them for a month or so, before significant patterning occurs, and then wash.

Also I am thinking about having them tailored. I assume I should wait until after the first wash? any help is greatly appreciated.

most likely they'll loose a bit of the darkness and look a bit more blue. some stiffness will go too, which will reduce the amount of creases you get. You'll need to hem to get rid of stacking. In my experience, you'll loose about 1/2" in length from a wash (best to call it 1" to be safe), as long as you don't tumble dry.

People say APC's fade fast but that doesn't mean you'll have loads of fade marks after a month. Unless you have a very active lifestyle and wear them every day, it takes time. That being said, eventually fading is inevitable, look at NOBD's pictures to see what a pair of washed regularly new standards looks like (his are quite old if i remember correctly).

I think your best bet is to have several pairs of jeans that you rotate if you want to avoid fades, that way you're not wearing the same pair every day.

Thanks for the reply! So say I wash them after a few wears, will the lose the ability to conform to my body? I know everyone loves raw denim because they change over time to adapt your shape. If I wash will they kind of 'freeze' the way they are? Also, upon the first wash and dry, does the width of the legs shrink? They are apc rescues, which are a little bit baggy. I prefer a slimmer fit, but due to my enormous thighs new standards are a little constricting. Ideally I'd like something in between ns and rescue, which is why is get them tailored. I wouldn't only be hemming them, I'd be tapering the legs. Is that even possible without ruining the integrity of the pants?

no.

When I washed my new standards they shrunk back to their original size and stretched back out to fit me pretty quickly, only permanent change is the length, and thats a minor change anyway.

Tailoring them is fine, its probably easiest to do it from the selvedge line on the outseam if you dont mind altering the width of the selvedge line. I had some Petit standards a while back that were too tight in the calf, so I let them out about 1/4" from there. You wont ruin the integrity or anything. Infact, if you can sew a straight line and have a sewing machine that can handle denim, you could probably do it yourself no problem.

I have only been wearing them for a week or so, no stretch so far in the legs, but waist has stretched slightly.
