A.P.C. The official thread for APC questions. - Page 722

I need some advice from APC folks.

I've now worn New Standards in size 29 for about 1.5 years without washing or soaking at any point. I'm experiencing the beginning of tearing in the crotch area (pics below). I will have them repaired in time but I'm looking to buy another pair of NS to break in. Now I'm wondering if I should buy size 30 and would like to know what folks' thoughts are. Here is why I'm considering 30, I'm 6 ft tall and about ~152 pounds. After the 1.5 years with my current APCs, I took waist measurements:

The first method is the usual buttoned up, laid naturally flat across the top method. That measures 16" which doubles to 32.
The second method is the BlueinGreen one (Lay the jean out flat with the top front edge even with the top back edge) which measures 16.5" which doubles to 33.

When I sit down, I feel resistance in the seat area still, the area where the tearing is beginning. This might be TMI and useless information but I have a bony bottom and sitting for too long can start to be a pain like really looong subway rides. The most wear on the bottom is right by the "sit bones".

Other than that area I don't feel much resistance in any other part of the jean (save some behind the knee) so nothing else is left to stretch so to speak.

So I'm wondering if they've been overstretched a bit due to the way the jeans sit and if maybe a size 30 is in order? Then again I don't want to be swimming in them either if they stretch too much.

Do you wear them with a belt currently? Or do they stay up?

Just size up. It won't kill you if they're a little looser, at least the stitching won't need to hold on for their dear lives whenever you sit.

I mostly wear them with a belt because it just feels more snug that way but I can wear without as well, though it causes the NS to hang a little lower on the waist.

I'd love to know what other peoples measurements are post 6 months on the waist. Mine went from an APC size 29, to a measured 32.

Regarding the stitching, I also think I waited too long to wash them which probably has weakened the fabric over time. I've read many cases of people having "crotch blowout" with APCs but it's hard to say why person-to-person. Some people recommend a cold soak before wearing though I'm not sure what is fact and what is myth regarding that.

I'm been putting off buying a pair of APCs for a few years now beacuse of my current rotation consisting of N&F, Raleigh (cone denim). But last night I scooped a pair of New Standards for $116 out the door up here in Canada at Holt Renfrew "last call". I've size down 2 (because 1 down was not available). I have a bit of a muffin top going on. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Hey guys,

I'm looking to purchase my first pair of APC New Standards. So I did quite a bit of reading and searching on this thread as well as the entire forum. I still can't figure out whether I need to soak before wearing or wear a few weeks before hemming etc. So if I could get a few answers/opinions on these questions it would be great!

BTW I'm not looking to fade my jeans hardcore or anything like that, most likely I'd wash or soak them at most after 6 months.

1. I'm looking for something pretty slim but not skinny skin tight. I normally wear size 30 so do I go down to 28 on the NS?

2. Should I soak before wearing and hemming?

3. Do I wear for a few weeks before hemming?

4. I'd like a little bit of stack so how do I know how much I have to shorten the length? For example I thought http://www.styleforum.net/t/33687/a-p-c-the-official-thread-for-apc-questions/10755#post_5701132 looks to be the right amount of stacking for me but  http://www.styleforum.net/t/33687/a-p-c-the-official-thread-for-apc-questions/10710#post_5678170 and http://www.styleforum.net/t/33687/a-p-c-the-official-thread-for-apc-questions/10740#post_5696950 is not what I'm looking for.

5. Does it matter if I get the normal hem or do I need to get the original hem?

6. Also color wise, do the NS's only come in indigo, black, and raw black?

Thank you

28 on NS

soak if you're anal, if not it really doesnt matter

hem first

talk to your tailor

hem doesnt matter unless you're anal

yes although i think they do materials other than denim in the NS cut

is this thread seriously just about APC jeans?

I like this parka but I think it's too expensive for the basic design

Good to know, I think I'm going to stick with a size 29 and wash it a little earlier and see how they fare.

yeah i think so too. i liked the green version, but the cotton felt kinda cheap and the sherling feels like polyester. but the fit is great and the construction and details are quite nice

APC doesn't make much else worth discussing really - plenty of clothes that I'd wear but it's basically the same season-to-season.

I'd soak before you wear just so it doesn't bleed all over the fucking place.

Apc IMO makes really solid products every year that have lesser than desirable fabrics. There were quite a few things this season that I would like to have. Boring but really most of us dress boring

Whats the difference between APC Madras New Standard and the regular APC NS?
