Thanks in advance!

It'd probably be easier for you to post your actual waist measurements. Probably sz29 though.

Can you give me your opinions of which is a better fit for me?  I just got a pair of APC NC and I intend to leave them "raw" and wash them as few times as possible (and by wash I mean soak).  I also have a pair of NS that I've machined washed several times and they fit very differently. I think they both fit well but for different purposes.  What are your opinions?

Hi guys,

Im looking for some advice regarding new APC's. I'm 5'7'', weight about 145lbs. My waist is 28'' above belly button and 30'' when measured 2in below my belly button. I bought a pair of APC Rescue size 28 at the beggining of the year that I absolutely love for its general fit, but the waist on it is about 32'' after all my months of wear. It was never terribly tight at the waist, and loose everywhere else but that was the fit i was going for (except the waist). Right now I wanna get a slimmer pair, and since the waist on the rescues stretched so much im thinking of going for some 27 NS. Do you guys think that I will achieve a slimmer look and a smaller, more snug waist with it? I dont want a skinny fit, more like a slim/str8 fit.

Thanks!

good to know about the rescues. i have a pair that i've been waiting to wear when Fall comes, but seeing that yours went from a 28 to 32, my 31 will prob go to a 35. will need to return for a 29 or 30.

i also have a APC PS size 31 (new, unaltered) in my listing with measurements if anyone is interested.

If your true waist size (where you wear your pants) is a 30, get a size 28 NS.

According to the contextclothing chart for New Standard sizing, the only difference between the 28 and the 27 is the waist...I´d rather get it a little tighter around the waist if the other measures are exactly the same (and some people confirmed that the NS 27 they got had at least 7.75" at the knee which is what id consider comfy) than get a 28 and get it to be too loose on the waist after a few months. My 28 rescues were 30 at the waist when i got them and grew to a 32". No way to wear em without a belt...

The problem with sizing down so much is that the waist is terribly right and uncomfortable for several weeks until/if it stretches. I had a pair of PS sized down two and couldn't wear them for 6 months because the waist was just too tight. After six months of trying I threw them away. I know most people here suggest sizing down at least two but understand how tight the waist is actually going to be. Good luck tucking a shirt in for the first few months.

I now have two pairs of APC, a nc and a NS, about both are in my true waist size and the Ns stretched a little but it's very wearable without a belt.

the thing about those charts (and all others pretty much) is they're good as a rough guide but dont expect them to be perfect. The majority of measurements appear to be rounded to the nearest half inch, for instance. Stiff raw denim is also a pain in the ass to measure.

judging by your measurements, it looks like you went true-to-size with your Rescues, were you able to button them up no problem when they were new?

If you get a size 28 in New Standards, you'd be going true-to-size again, so you'd likely end up with the same or very similar fit in the waist, but with slimmer legs since the New Standard is a slimmer fit than the Rescue. If you're happy with that, then get a 28, but if you want a slimmer fit in the waist, size down (27 like you said, or smaller).

I think the best sizing method is to get an idea of how you want them to fit in the thigh and then compare that to the size charts on context. the thighs wont stretch much, the waist is where most of the stretch is.

I'm not sure why TauKappaEpsilon had experience of APC's not stretching, all three pairs I've owned have stretched 2+ inches in the waist after the first week of solid wear. My first pair of new standards stretched 4" since i sized down alot and got a bit bigger throughout the course of owning them.

^ exactly, it's incredibly easy for 2 people to measure 1 pair of pants and come up w/ different measurements.  Put your thumb and forefinger together to estimate how much 0.5" is...it's incredibly small...and that number often gets multiplied by 2 if it's the waist...

Well, that´s pretty much what I was going for...thanks so much. The rescues were pretty much comfy from the get go...Like after a week, impossible to wear without a belt at the hips. I love how they fit at the legs, despit being loose its kinda molded and just a nice look overall, not like old people str8 jeans.  For the NS, i want to slim down a little, and I think it having 7.75" at the knee is all I need to know that its comfy and wont be too tight at the calves.
