I've personally tried on a pair of New Cures and keep in mind I tried the 2 sizes down and couldn't even buckle the top button. My natural waist is a 32 but I usually wear a 31 in normal non raw denim. The denim guy reccommend me to size down 2 sizes so I tried on the 29 and like I said the button couldn't be done. Maybe I should have swoosh ****** around for a couple of minutes or something, i don't know, but I feel scared to get the 30 now if it was to stretch out like 3 sizes.

Toucan, stretching is just completely inevitable, and I think you'll find that if you get a 29 or a 30 or a 31, because your body shape is the same regardless of what size denim you get, all of those sizes will stretch to pretty much the same end result.

It sounds like 30 is going to be the right size on you to get a snug fit without being overly tight. For APC, I recommend getting one size down from your regular denim size for the best fit around the waist.

New cures are a bit tougher. It depends on the kind of look you're going for. If you want a really skinny almost april 77 look, size down 2 on the new cures. However, i think sizing down 1 on new cures is much more successful than people sizing down 3 on new standards. I don't know if it's because the new standards are talked about more or they think that the selvage on the NS means they're better(it's the exact same denim) or what. Most people buying NS sized down 2-3 are looking for a silm, but not skin tight fit and the NS usually end up stretching a bit too big for them in the thighs and the legs end up looking weird. I think sizing down 1 on new cures will do what you're looking for. Even after stretching it should be slim all the way down, and the waist should be too stretched out.

When people talk about soaking their jeans in hot water to shrink the inseam, are they soaking them inside-out?
Also, I've read here that drying them in a dryer shrinks them a little more- should this also be inside out? Will this be any worse than hang-drying them?

Thanks for any help.

Well, as I posted before I bought a 31 in the REscue and i immediately could tell it as too big. I had no problem buttoning them at all out of the box and ended up selling. After some thought I decided that I would try a 31 NS. I just got them in the mail from Context and holy **** are they tight. It took probably 20 minutes of wear before I could squeeze into the first and second buttons. The sizing between these is very different, unlike some recomendations that I recieved.

The inside-out thing is (AFAIK) only because of abrasion, which they will encounter in either the washer or the dryer. If you are just soaking them in a bucket or tub, it doesn't matter which side is out (although when indigo comes off, it will be easier for it to come off the outside). If you put them in a washer or dryer, do it inside-out.

I have never put my APCs in the dryer, but in general, putting damp jeans in the dryer will shrink them more than just letting them drip dry.

so i have been waiting forever for APC to reintroduce their overdyed black new standards. i got an email from them yesterday....they haven't done that, but have gone one step better - overdyed black cure and new cures, in stretch denim (2% elastane), exactly what i am looking for.

i'm not sure if and when these went into retail stores or for sale online, but was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the sizing of these? i am a 30 waist, and fit 27 in new standards.

the mens cure are at http://www.apc.fr/eu/en/fiche_articl...f=1C024312169H and are sized from 28 upwards.

the womens new cure are at http://www.apc.fr/eu/en/fiche_articl...f=1C024312300F and are available from size 25 through 30.

are they...
true to size?
true to APC raw size (ie 2/3 down)...?

cheers

Don't size down 3 on new cures, you will have no balls left and there's no way they'll do up.

i just got a pair of new standards. i tried on a 29 and couldn't come close to buttoning the top button, but could put on a pair of 30s with relative ease. i ended up going with the 30s as i don't need a real slim pair of jeans. the sales staff seemed to advise against a soak, but what do they know? should I soak the jeans to get some of the shrinking out of the way or just wear 'em as is?

cool. is soaking them standard practice? they're super stiff right now and i can't say i'm in love with the sheen, but i would like for them to age as naturally as possible and can deal with how they look and feel right now.

on a side note, has anybody tried the salt water wash that the little info sheet describes? you're supposed to wear them for as long as possible then swim in the ocean with them on, rub sand on them, and repeat, then rinse and let dry in the sun. what kind of color would that give you? it sounds kinda cool in theory but i don't want super light jeans.
