I've now worn New Standards in size 29 for about 1.5 years without washing or soaking at any point. I'm experiencing the beginning of tearing in the crotch area (pics below). I will have them repaired in time but I'm looking to buy another pair of NS to break in. Now I'm wondering if I should buy size 30 and would like to know what folks' thoughts are. Here is why I'm considering 30, I'm 6 ft tall and about ~152 pounds. After the 1.5 years with my current APCs, I took waist measurements:
The first method is the usual buttoned up, laid naturally flat across the top method. That measures 16" which doubles to 32.
The second method is the BlueinGreen one (Lay the jean out flat with the top front edge even with the top back edge) which measures 16.5" which doubles to 33.
When I sit down, I feel resistance in the seat area still, the area where the tearing is beginning. This might be TMI and useless information but I have a bony bottom and sitting for too long can start to be a pain like really looong subway rides. The most wear on the bottom is right by the "sit bones".
Other than that area I don't feel much resistance in any other part of the jean (save some behind the knee) so nothing else is left to stretch so to speak.
So I'm wondering if they've been overstretched a bit due to the way the jeans sit and if maybe a size 30 is in order? Then again I don't want to be swimming in them either if they stretch too much.
