Any recommendations?

Also if anyone could elaborate on shirt and ties as well that would be great

Avoid herringbone.

But seriously, gray? Blue? Brown? Teal? Throw us a bone here.

There have been recent discussions on this in the Good Taste thread and the general consensus was to avoid such jackets because they are too difficult to match with slacks.  Personally, I have a gray herringbone jacket and enjoy wearing it with charcoal slacks and burgundy shell shoes as well as with jeans.  Cue the comment that charcoal pants are not in good taste in 3 . . . 2 . .. . 1. . .

Casual? Try olive green chinos and desert boots or tan chelseas. Chambray shirt and tan, rust or oatmeal v neck
Business? Try mid grey flannels and burgundy longwings. Heavy Oxford shirt and green lambs wool tie.

Ianiceman's "business" post is more or less my ideal for wearing my gray herringbone jacket. I like it with cords, as well -- sage green and navy. I'm tempted to get moleskins in brown and forest green, which would work for me -- cords in those colors would be great, too. If it has enough texture, jeans are an option, but if the surface of the jacket is too refined then it won't work with jeans.

Tatersall checked shirts are nice, but you do have to be sure the scales of the patterns play nicely with each other.

That's what I do.  I love my grey herringbone sport coat.  I care not that it is somewhat more difficult to match than some of my other jackets.
