Apparently the cake was inspired by an internet joke posted on reddit, and the picture is from the reddit post not the actual cake in that case.

The original picture originated from when one cop accidentally tased another (which is what the picture appears to show).

Was it posted on reddit by a gay minister?

Maybe we need a WTF Overzealous Cake Counterfeiters thread.

Officer Betty Shelby On Terence Crutcher Shooting: I Was Temporarily Deaf!

Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby was temporarily deaf during her encounter with Terence Crutcher, this according to her attorney, Scott Wood.

Wood said Shelby had experienced what is called “auditory exclusion,” a form of temporary hearing loss occurring under high stress. This is apparently why Shelby did not hear sirens from the additional police vehicles, she didn’t hear when Officer Tyler Turnbough arrived, nor did she hear him announce to her that he has his Taser.

Wood said Shelby is justified in gunning down Crutcher, since she believed he had a gun, and “…if you think someone has a gun, you don’t get your Taser out.” No gun was found on Crutcher, nor his vehicle, and Shelby was not responding to a call about an armed person, so her suspicion of Crutcher being armed is questionable.

Shelby was charged with felony manslaughter in the first degree, and was arrested after turning herself in to authorities. She was booked at a local county jail and released on $50,000 bond, 23 minutes after her arrest.

I don't know guys, sounds legit to me.

that is one of the worst, most awkward defenses i've heard.

What? Can't hear you.

It sounds like the generic tunnel vision claim that one sees in many cases like this.

Between this and the cake thing, this ought to be the WTF overzealous media thread.

So... you're okay with it?

Turning this around, can someone claim that they can't hear a police officer saying to 'get on the ground' or 'stop resisting' if one is under a large amount of stress (like if someone is pointing a gun at you)?

Dead people can't talk, so they're not going to be able to claim anything unless the officer accidentally shoots some random fat kid instead of the target.

Do I believe someone in a stressful situation, where they have to focus on something, might not register everything they would otherwise? Yeah. In this particular case? I have no idea. IIRC the other cops were only there for a few seconds before the shot.

Well that makes it easy.

Anytime anyone is ever arrested for being non compliant/resisting etc, we have a ready made excuse.

The police union lawyers are pretty creative.

I don't even know what to say to that. Can you really be this dense?
