Maybe the worst officer involved shooting I've ever heard of

“Okay, young man, listen to my instructions and do not make a mistake,” Langley says.

“You are to keep your legs crossed, do you understand me?” Langley asks.

“Yes, sir,” Shaver responds.

“You are to put both of your hands on down straight out in front of you. Push yourself up to a kneeling position. I said keep your legs crossed.”

“I’m sorry. I just pushed my …” Shaver tries to explain.

“I didn’ t say this was a conversation,” Langley responds. “Put your hands up in the air. Hands up in the air. You do that again and we’re shooting you.”

“No, please do not shoot me,” Shaver pleads.

“Then listen to my instruction,” Langley says.

“Okay, I’m trying to do what you …” Shaver says.

“Don’t talk, listen,” Langley orders.

“Hands straight up in the air. Do not put your hands down for any reason. If you think you’ re going to fall, you’re going to fall on your face. If your hands go back into the small of your back or down, we are going to shoot you.

“Do you understand me?”

“Yes, sir,” Shaver says.

“Crawl towards me,” Langley orders. “Crawl towards me.”

“Yes, sir, please ….” Shaver says.

“Don’t …” Langley orders before Mesa police officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford opens fire five times, killing Shaver.

If you're wondering what this guy did to deserve to die on his knees begging for his life...apparently he had a couple of pellet guns in his room that he used for pest control.

"None of the officers expressed any shock or regret in that Shaver was now dead, mostly being concerned with getting Portillo out of there, then going into Shaver’s room."

Have to make sure he got home safe

That dude looks like the stereotype of cops who became cops just to shoot someone.  Just like how there's the stereotypical pedophile look, etc.  He looks like someone who got bullied a lot as a kid, so he thought he could put a uniform on, be a tough guy, and get back at the world.

How is it this guy only got charged with second degree murder? They were laying the groundwork for it in the instructions leading up to shooting him.

That's a pretty horrific scenario. I think any cop with an AR-15 that has "You're fucked" inscribed does not have the proper personality type of a public servant we entrust with lethal force.

You really shouldn't rely on summaries from websites like that. Biased doesn't even begin to describe it. What I gather from reading other sources:

A very drunk guy invites some strangers into his room, shows them a pellet gun (a rifle) and a dead bird, claims that he works for Walmart shooting birds that get into the stores. Then he starts pointing the gun out an open window, down at the street. The cops come and demand that he leave the room. He doesn't. When he finally comes out, he keeps reaching for his waistband, supposedly to pull up his pants, is shot by one of the cops after being warned repeatedly. And the cop who shoots isn't the one who was giving the orders in the transcript.

There is no video released yet of the actual shooting, and the only non-cop witness admits she didn't see what precipitated it.

Why isn't the video being released?

No one else has a problem with the psych profile on demonstration with the engraved gun?

Dude, he was crawling on hands and knees. You can't just shoot people in the fucking head. Full stop.
