WTF over-zealous police? - Page 267
Warning: Gawker link
1278 people shot so far this year, 6 of them by cops.
(using your numbers)
I'm showing 2,722,389 citizens (as of 2014), and ~12,200 cops.
.00047 per citizen
.00049 and per cop.
So the rate is the same (within error)
I'm not sure what such a small sample size is supposed to prove? 5 months proves what?
Also - lets see the conviction/jail rates for citizens vs cops? Do you think those are equal?
I wasn't making any particular statistical argument; the year-to-date statistics are just that...year to date statistics. It's a current event. And one you rarely see aggregated -- shootings, rather than murders. It's easy to forget that for every murder there's four or five people shot who don't die. -- and probably another four or five who were shot at and missed, but that would be impossible to measure.
But I easily could make a statistical argument: look not just at the sheer magnitude of it, but the fact that for every person shot in Chicago by cops, there's more than two hundred shot by someone else.
Those two things could be related.
The Cubbies are typically a second half team, so will they keep this up all year or be more like the Brew Crew and crap out at the all-star break.
