Cops in the Clark case will not face prosecution.

It was a foregone conclusion. I arranged to work from home this afternoon on the very real chance protesters decide to shut down the major throughways in the city.

Sounds like aggravated trespassing to me -- interfering with interstate commerce, FBI jurisdiction, like they had in Oregon. Watch out, protestors!

The cops just escort them here.

Clark was shot by a Schwarze, so what's the big deal?

The best video of the incident. The shooting happens off camera so who knows about that, but I question the need for the cops to get violent at :20. Clark isn't doing anything and his hands are down by his sides, yet the cops insist on violently attempting to throw him to the ground.

Chicago cop recently charged with murder gets hired by the Fraternal Order of Police to be a janitor. Something tells me that's the best paid janitor around.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that.

He's not been convinced of anything yet...and the union's job is basically to unconditionally support their membership (at least until they are convicted). I mean, it sucks that when they have to support the interests of scumbags, but that's sort of the whole point of unions and why you spend your life paying dues to them.

Since this guy lost his job in advance of his trial, likely will have trouble getting hired in this city, and his family is out a huge chunk of money in bail...it's not the worst thing that they might toss him some shit job just to make ends meet before he goes back to court and his family gets to repay their home equity loans. So long as they aren't, like Piob says, making him the highest paid janitor around.

It's the working man's equivalent of an executive's indemnification provision in their employment contract.

In other news, Chicago is on pace to nearly double the number of shootings, compared to last year.

According to data provided by Chicago police, the number of shootings in the first three months of the year jumped from 359 in 2015 to 677 in 2016 -- an 88.5% increase.

Ferguson effect-what Ferguson effect?
A third-party source seems to indicate that the "shot" number is shot and wounded, excluding those who are killed, and that the total number shot is over 800 for the first three months.

Year to year statistical variation for one city, sure, we can pin that to a single cause.

Baltimore, St. Louis, now Chicago -- all coincidences. 97% of scientists agree.

ETA: Milwaukee, too.

And there's no effect in the other 25 of the 30 largest US cities (for 2015).

There's some effect in those five cities (add New Orleans), but attributing it to "Ferguson effect" is starting with an agenda and seeking evidence. Why doesn't it apply in the rest of the country?

Five of the most fucked up cities in the country are especially fucked up this year. It's wildly reductive to say that's caused by increased police scrutiny.

Cop shoots another cop. All over a $60 meth bust. Feel good news story of the day.

I'm not surprised this happened in Albuquerque. The police there, as DOJ investigations have shown, are trigger happy maniacs.
