As a society we attempt, sometimes with success, to the reduce the risk of death from all sorts of causes.

It's definitely a logical response, you can aim to reduce deaths in any area but when a population grows 10s of millions in a decade the statistic is skewed. If I'm missing something forgive me, I have an 102 fever and im battling it with Xanax and booze.

Police in Windsor, Ontario are running undercover sting operations to bust Uber drivers. It's nice to know in a city with one of Canada's highest crime rates that police are so dedicated to supporting their union brothers.

BLM is BS.

For starters, fatal police shootings make up a much larger proportion of white and Hispanic homicide deaths than black homicide deaths. According to the Post database, in 2015 officers killed 662 whites and Hispanics, and 258 blacks. (The overwhelming majority of all those police-shooting victims were attacking the officer, often with a gun.) Using the 2014 homicide numbers as an approximation of 2015’s, those 662 white and Hispanic victims of police shootings would make up 12% of all white and Hispanic homicide deaths. That is three times the proportion of black deaths that result from police shootings.

...

Police officers—of all races—are also disproportionately endangered by black assailants. Over the past decade, according to FBI data, 40% of cop killers have been black. Officers are killed by blacks at a rate 2.5 times higher than the rate at which blacks are killed by police.

Some may find evidence of police bias in the fact that blacks make up 26% of the police-shooting victims, compared with their 13% representation in the national population. But as residents of poor black neighborhoods know too well, violent crimes are disproportionately committed by blacks. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, blacks were charged with 62% of all robberies, 57% of murders and 45% of assaults in the 75 largest U.S. counties in 2009, though they made up roughly 15% of the population there.

ETA: I'm not quite sure what the line "Officers are killed by blacks at a rate 2.5 times higher than the rate at which blacks are killed by police." is supposed mean.

Watch it, Turk. Next you're going to post some right wing stuff about Trayvon, Michael Brown and Freddie Gary not being true black heroes and role models.

Our President meets with BLM activists, not with police supporters!

I thought police departments were not required to submit their shooting statistics the FBI and therefore no one has a good grasp of the real statistics.

The editorial I quoted cites numbers collected by a newspaper, not the FBI, for that statistic.

The cop that arrested Sandra Bland is officially fired: http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/03/us/sandra-bland-officer-fired/index.html

No one was indicted in relation to the jailhouse death, but a grand jury did not believe Encinia's statement that he removed Bland from the car she was driving so he could conduct a safer traffic investigation.

Encinia was indicted on a perjury charge, and authorities began terminations proceedings shortly after.

He has the right to appeal Tuesday's decision.

I think that was a great call but no doubt he'll appeal.

One down, thousands to go. If only every cop that lied on an arrest report was fired.

Not going to happen though.
