WTF over-zealous police? - Page 245

Why would the K-9 officer even release the dog? Maybe it's because they enjoy mauling people:

The people hurt in these attacks claim permanent injuries. And over this holiday weekend, the newspaper published contents of texts between two K-9 officers who were clearly showed that they were looking forward to the possibility of having their dogs attack an 18-year-old young man. His mother had called the police because she feared her son was suicidal. The man, Jared Lemay, was wanted for a probation violation. K-9 handlers Keith Bush and Michael Dietz responded:

On this day, before he or any other officer reached Jared Lemay's home, Bush sent a message to fellow K-9 handler Michael Dietz: "COME GET UR BITE."

Minutes later, records show, Bush messaged Dietz again: "IM GONNA TAKE UR BITE IF U DONT HURRY UP."

Dietz got their first and got his bite. Lemay was hiding in a trash can in the garage. The dog mauled Lemay's face and shoulder. An officer later messaged Deitz "CONGRATS!." And there was this exchange later:

"YOUR BITE OR (Dietz's)?" McHale inquired.

"I LET (Dietz) HAVE IT," Bush replied.

"NICE, HOW BAD?" McHale asked.

"BAD," Bush wrote. "FACE AND BACK."

"SKIN GRAFT BAD?" McHale asked.

"NO," Bush wrote.

"COULDA BEEN WORSE THEN, HE SHOULD HAVE COMPLIED," McHale said, ending the conversation.

$13,000?  Who represented the family?
Why didn't the officers involved at the very least get reprimanded?
Waiting for Ata's response

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that the severity of the injuries is grossly exaggerated. "Nine puncture wounds and abrasions" sounds like an ambulance chaser's description of a minor bite rather than a "mauling."

Yep.

I'd let somebody do that to me for $13k.

I know people that have been attacked by dogs when they were kids, and it's a horrific experience. That kid is going to have emotional problems for a very long time. 13k ain't shit for how fucked that child is going to be.

It's an 18-month old -- won't even remember it. Gimme a break.

Yeah, right. Some dudes still remember being circumcised.

The real question is; "Do you also volunteer your daughter for 13k?" would be out of bounds on SF, right?

If it's your kid you don't just get the money. So, no.

And give me a break. The people who claim to remember being circumcised as infants are deluded (or just lying about it).

People who think they have memories of things that happened when they were really young are usually remembering the stories they've heard about the event, and then build a false memory based on that. Nobody remembers anything from that young.

I suppose you could still get emotionally fucked up from things you don't remember though.
You could easily develop a crippling fear of dogs or something from an event like that...you wouldn't remember it, but your body's fight or flight response would get pretty fucked up by it.

Technically they will only $4.5K after legal fees. I can't imagine how incompetent their lawyer must be. Best part of the story is the cops are getting off with a slap on the wrist so they can take part in the mauling of a different child another day.

and anyway, she was going for her waistband right

It's her word against the dog's, and who are you going to believe?

I was attacked by a bulldog this past May. I still have scars on my arm that I doubt will completely heal. There were no cops involved and I didn't sue.
