WTF over-zealous police? - Page 169

Given the absurdity of the position you're taking at the moment I'm not even sure I want your approval. That's intended as a joke, not an insult, by the way.

It's as if we were discussing what color the sky is, and I'd taken the position that it's usually blue, and you'd showed up with a picture where it's gray. It just doesn't prove anything.

Except we've got 169 pages of pictures of the sky being gray.

That depends on your display settings, and, also, how many posts per page you have the forum set to.

And if Pio pointed to 336 pictures of gray sky taken at precise 24 hour intervals over the past year there'd be no point in your looking at any of them because they're all just meaningless isolated anecdotal images that don't refute your completely unsubstantiated ipse dixit generalization.

I guess I should have watched the video. I didn't realize it was a collection of hundreds of thousands of encounters with cops.

Dude, you've been around here way too long to make the rookie mistake of clouding your judgment with facts before commenting.

Murdering an unarmed individual that is entirely innocent of any crime is a-okay by the standards of the LAPD.

Not to get hung up on minutiae, but for what it's worth I don't think that's the LAPD. Gardena* is a small, independent city that's part of what we regionally think of as Los Angeles, but is not part of the actual city of Los Angeles and has its own police department. (Some of the smaller municipalities in the area have their own police departments, while others contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deptartment.)

*Should anyone care, Gardena in what we call the South Bay, more or less inland from LAX airport and southwest of downtown Los Angeles. To add even less relevant information, it's about 15 minutes from where I grew up.

The money comes from the strip searches, forced enemas, colonoscopy and holding him for 12 hours for detainment http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/16/justice/new-mexico-search-settlement/  I was actually surprised at how low that settlement was, particularly due to how invasive it was.

I watched the video. He can't invoke his right against self-incriminaiton by remaining silent.  You have to actually articulate it.  Pre-Miranda, pre-arrest silence may be used as an adoptive admission in a criminal prosecution.  That doesn't really apply here, because they aren't asking him about any crime.  However, this type of misinformation may get others in trouble who think this is how you invoke your rights.

Unfortunately, most people don't know how to properly protect themselves.  I feel like it should be taught whenever it is covered in high school.  It's really hard for anyone to object to the thought of people learning their fundamental rights, it' not like it'll give anyone an upper hand.  These protections are in place already and citizens should know their rights and how to properly exercise them.
