How much does a tailor cost?

It's not clear what you mean by "tailored." Do you mean buying off-the-rack items and having a tailor adjust them for better fit? Or are you referring to having a tailor measure you and make the items from scratch?

The former is a good cheap option. The latter, aka bespoke, is a much more expensive endeavor, and not recommended for those just getting started. There is an in between option (MTM or made-to-measure) which is cheaper.

I don't know that there is true bespoke on offer in the bay area. I haven't seen it yet, but I've only been back for about a year. Wingtip says they do, but I've never really investigated as I'm pretty happy with my existing tailor (even if he is in the wrong state currently ).

Most of the more well known bay area Styleforum members either use traveling tailors or travel enough themselves to visit tailors based in other cities.

Prices for bespoke vary widely. Thomas Mason is with about GBP2400 or roughly USD 3700 for a 2-piece suit not at the upper end of the scale, but there are cheaper quality options. E.g. W.W. Chan from Hong Kong (where he is one of the most expensive bespoke tailors) is highly regarded here and on other forums and will make you a 2-piece suit for less than USD2000. And there are many cheaper options.
