I'm always interested in critiques of technology, so I just requested that from my library. Thanks for the rec.I just finished Why Does the World Exist? by Jim Holt. I would definitely recommend it if you have an interest in philosophy.

Last book I read was "The 25th Hour" by David Benioff. Makes me appreciate the film adaptation, which in some ways improves on the story.

Also, I'd recommend people check out these two:

So went to go find some McCarthy at the library; they didn't have any at that branch but they did have the final Wheel of Time book. Figured since I had read the first 13 might as well finish it. Just finished, have to say it was pretty long (one chapter was literally 200 pages) but I guess that's expected. Everything tied up fairly well, I was pretty content with it. 

 

Now to figure out what to read next... I've still got a couple short story collections lying around. Probably work on those.

Under the Volcano and it's like again and again stabbing myself in the thigh with a serrated kitchen knife, but in a really beautiful way.

Also recently read Jerzy Kosinki's Steps, which is like if Kafka wrote a book of love stories and is alarmingly great.

Yeah that's true. I remember thinking 'so that's what DTs are like'. He worked on it for so long. Completely honed it.

Just read Walking Dead #1 alongside Frank Darabont's Walking Dead pilot script. Noting the various changes and embellishments was very instructive and edifying.

I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on the comic? About 19-ish issues in, I'd say it's improving greatly at all the character-driven things it sets out to do.

Just finished Alex Scarrow's Afterlight - not bad and better than the first one if you fancy post-apocalyptic survival.

Currently reading Andrew Miller's Pure - I'm not much of an historical fiction reader, but it lives up to the hype.

Recently read Junot Diaz's This is how you lose her, which I ended up liking even more than Oscar Wao. Fucked up male decision making at it's finest icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Beryl Markham's West With the Wind was unbelievable. Made me want to go run around Africa. It's one of the best memoirs I've read.

Thinking about Leviathan Wakes next, after all the good things I've heard.

About to finish Oscar and Lucinda. I found it a little too descriptive for my taste.

Under the Volcano is next. I have started it a while back, but paused it. A downer, I am sure.

Just finished Charles Stross's Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise, I preferred the second book - both very retro space opera. Disappointed he didn't add a third to the series.
