I don't wander around that area much, but noticed the shops as I was walking up. Going along Queens Road central from the Landmark to where H&M used to be direction, a bit past the old H&M there's a stairway going up on the left. Somewhere on the right. Hope that helps

How about trying one of those alteration shop? Unless you have something special in your mind, they have buttons and change those for you...

Yup, that's the one. Nice going.

My experience with alteration shops is that they don't have much in the way of nicer buttons.

You can look in Sham Shui Po. You can find a huge variety of buttons.

No experience with Baron, but I've only had one Yao, and while the suit was nice, there were some pretty unforgivable fitting flaws that made me not want to go back.... I see some of the same flaws in pics people post here.

I just got a suit fitted by Chan in HK last week, so long as it arrives in the post the same as it was during the fittings, it will be the most well-fitting suit I own; even better than my Steed. Zero fitting flaws, no apparent ripples anywhere... I know a lot of guys here are more concerned about stitching and subtle details, but for me fit is everything. Their business really seems to be booming, and I sincerely hope the quality doesn't go down. I could easily see that happening though... some of the younger guys seem a lot more apathetic than Patrick (who isn't always around), and I don't see how they won't have to hire more inexperienced cutters and tailors to keep up with demand.

^Yea that one, but I've noticed these same problems in other pics... I don't think I'm too harsh, the guys at C&T ripped that suit apart and said I should have returned it. Even if the fabric was somewhat unusual, I really wasn't too pleased with Yao's 'it looks good enough' attitude when I wanted something fixed. Not saying he's at all a bad tailor, but if we're talking about 'the best'... I'm sure if someone worked with Yao over a few suits they could get good results.

I believe Yao stated awhile back that some of his tailors were getting up there in age and one wonders whether some of them have retired.

Chan is booming I was there in March and they were busy as hell but the suit turned out very well.

I've had a Yao suit altered and opened and the tailor here thought they did a very good job. This alteration tailor comes highly recommended from many sources.

I saw a sign on the street that says WW Chan is opening a shop in Central. You could get fitted at the Armoury but now Chan will have their own premises. Chan's prices have gone up so much because they are popular, but other places are pretty reasonable.

I'm not sure what the future holds for them; that Shanghai Chan thread was terrifying, but maybe the HK guys will be able to keep standards up for a while longer. It's astonishing how few tailoring houses realize that fit is king... part of me wonders if Patrick and a few of their older tailors left, it could easily go downhill fast.

You have to remember a lot of these places know that many of their customers aren't repeat customers so I guess if they can do a decent job then they will.

I didn't have a good experience with Chan in Shanghai when I ordered shirts.

I think all the good tailors have to be in their 60's and 70's by now and very few are entering the trade of the low pay. Sooner or later its going to end.

Hey SF,


I'm arriving in HK on Thursday and would appreciate some help. Yes, I'm a noob and I desperately need help before making a huge $$$ tailoring decision.

From SF reviews I'm looking at the following HK tailors:
-W.W. Chan
-Gordon Yao
-Peter Lee of Lee Baron
-Y William Yu
-Jantzen

I need to get a tuxedo (full getup incl. shirt) made as I'm a best man in a few months and also would want to use it for my wedding one day.

Would be great to get shirts from a few shops so I can reorder whoever does the best job.

Also, would be looking for a blazer (unstructured with shoulder pads?), pants, and a grey suit.

I'm 5'5" and 125lb, super skinny and short arms and cannot fit anything OTR. I want a very slim cut, highly tapered pants, cutaway collar (think Thomas Pink), I wear 2"-2.5" skinny ties so I want similar sized lapels (is 2.5" my min or or can I go smaller?), jacket bottom that comes down to wrist, etc.

I'm on a budget and would like to get the most bang for my buck. Since I'm in my mid 20's and I can't fit OTR, I will need to build a full suit and shirt wardrobe in the near future. My alternative when I get back to NYC will basically be MTM stuff (MySuitNY, J Hilburn, etc.. ). So if HK really is right for me I want to get measured and sorted while I am in town.

What tailor/s can I go to that will understand and accommodate my needs (style wise), and allow me maintain a budget in the long term?

This is certainly the better route, but I doubt they have them. Think they do CTM though.
