First day on the job

How would you dress for your first day on the job, when you're meeting all your new coworkers? Arguably this day is more important than the preceding interviews, as you'll be meeting a lot more people.

I'm thinking of wearing either a white or a light blue shirt, the midnight blue tie as pictured, and a MTM navy suitsupply suit on my first day at a large investment bank. Any thoughts?

Where do you work?

I'll be working in London, if that matters.

Sorry, I mean what setting. Office I assume? What is it you do? The only reason I ask is because I have no idea whether you work for Barclays or Burger King. If it were me the setting of where my new job was would determine how I would dress.

Like I said in my original post, I'll be working at a large investment bank, so that's an office setting. It probably wouldn't be smart to specify any further.

Sorry, didn't see that for some reason. Maybe I'm due for an eye examination.

No worries!

I think a plain navy suit, plain shirt and small patterned tie sounds about right - utterly unobjectionable interview wear; Mantonian UCBD.(*)  I don't much care for the tie you posted as a matter of personal preference.  Black shoes of course.

(*) Ultra Conservative Business Dress - there are threads on this.

Thank you, I researched the ultra conservative business wear thread. Apologies for how inane or superfluous this thread might be, but I just wanted to be absolutely sure. I can assure you that I'll strive for more valuable contributions to this fine forum in the future.

You are making far too much of this, just wear a suit appropriate to to an informal occasion in your chosen trade. You will have seen what your future colleagues normally wear so just go with the flow.

I agree. I initially commented on this topic thinking you didn't know what you needed to wear in your new job. Since you obviously do, the choice shouldn't be hard.

You've been to the location. YOU tell US what you should wear. This isn't rocket science OP. You're over-thinking it.

Well, it's not as easy as you make it out to be. I think in finance there might be a fine line between dressing well and dressing too well, especially as a junior person. But I don't want to go out and specifically buy very low quality or ill-fitting clothes, when I like what I have already. So, I guess I was asking if wearing a MTM suit and a Brioni tie would be fine.

Then it seems like you know more about that world than I do already.
