Um, I don't think that it's the Americans that "know how to make money" that are bringing down the quality of life rating of American cities.

The vast majority of inhabitants of American cities are not people who know how to make money.

EDIT: For example:

In New York City: "In 2005 the median household income in the wealthiest census tract was $188,697, while in the poorest it was $9,320."

It's not the people making $188,697 that are bringing down the quality of life rating of NYC, it's the people that are making $9,320.

Thanks for clearing that up. My opinion still stands.

Go Osaka! When I'm living there, the quality of life is gonna shoot up, probably to 1st or 2nd place as soon as I get off the train.

Quite the opposite of what you described above.

The climate here is amazing half the year and absolute shit the other half. I'm still not sure why it makes the top of the lists every year.
I will concede that housing in Van is ridiculous, even though historically it's always been high. But, I just can't think of any other city in the world where you can be in a downtown with the same density as Manhattan, drive 15-20 minutes and be alone in an old growth forest hiking on a trail and see a black bear.

Density of Manhattan? If that were true, we'd have at least ONE good men's shoe store, right?

I was told that the West End has the same residential density as parts of Manhattan. As for shoes...Holt Renfrew got a new buyer...shoes still suck. Oh well, I don't mind Kalena's on Commercial, but there stuff is still a small step above mediocre.

I used to love Kalena's before discovering this place Now it just doesn't cut it.
