My understanding is that DNR magazine is the news source for men's clothing. I was considering subscribing, but it's a little pricey. Anyone out there have any experience with it? What are your opinions about its strengths, weaknesses, etc.? Thanks in advance...

It is very much worth the money. I've thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from my subscription.

I have not heard of this magazine before. Is it available at your typical Barnes and Noble? Ah...the benefits of this forum.

i don't know about bookstores, but it is available at a lot of news stands. look around and it won't take long to find. i suggest finding a copy to read before subscribing though. i've looked at a few issues and a lot dealt with designer stuff i don't have much interest in. it is fun to flip through. (and it looks cool on your coffee table)

How much is it per issue and per subscription? Sounds interesting, but I have yet to find a physical copy to read anywhere.

DNR is a trade publication, not really a fashion magazine. It's owned by Fairchild, purveyor of other fine trade titles as Supermarket News and Executive Technology. If you're interested in the menswear industry, it'll be a good read; if you just like clothes, you may not.

Of course, Fairchild is owned by Advance, which also owns CondeNast, which in turn publishes GQ. In fact, virtually everything you read/see/surf is owned by 5-6 media conglomerates. It's what makes boards like this so nice - independent, unbiased opinions.

Recently, I like VMAN, which is a spin-off of V magazine.

I also like Vogue Homme, FHM collections, and arena homme.

Sportswear International is also good if you are into streetwear. The fashion industry is also thoroughly discussed in this mag.

If you like pretentious clothing such as oxxford, brioni and the like, then there are not much magazines that feed such a clientle. I can only think of a mag like Robb Report, which we all know has very limited fashion coverage.

I dont mean that in a bad way. I like those styles of clothing as well and happend to own several articles of the brands mentioned. And i would much rather choose such conservative fashions over the ridiculously trendy flash in pan looks coming mostly from europe. (DSquared, Commes Des Garcons anyone???) It just that the price and generally luxury of those items can be a little bit much.

big balla-

You mentioned Vogue Homme. I've heard others in the forum sing its praises but have yet to find it at a bookstore, newstand, even online magazine stores. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) know where I might find a copy of this magazine?

HI ,I'm new here . I  am a great fan of VOGUES HOMMES INTERNATIONAL MODE . I obtain it from a superb book/magazine shop in London which stocks EVERY PUBLICATION for the fashion/clothing trade . The name is ' R.D.FRANKS and the telephone no. is -  prefix for UK from US + 0207  636 1244 . You can buy a subscription for the bi-annual editions from them . I have also seen the magazine on sale in a  BORDERS bookshop near to me in the North of England . Incidentally , there is another superb french men's magazine called NUMERO HOMME which I have bought when on holiday in Perpignan . That also is bi-annual , eg. spring/summer , autumn/winter . There are also two exceedingly expensive magazines for the trade in which all the pictures of the runway shows are printed in book form , 2  or 3 months after the appropriate PARIS /MILAN etc fashion weeks . They are L'UOMO BOOK and COLLEZIONI UOMO , the editions from the  two different seasons being the best . Happy hunting regards  KIT Â

Hi again . I've done some more research in the last few minutes . In the USA - ' Speedimpex USA inc. ' tel - 718-3927477  should be able to help - ' [email protected] ' . They offer subscriptions for foreign magazines etc. Be sure to ask for the edition in english as there are editions in french , italian etc . The website for R.D.Franks is - ' [email protected] The telephone no. for VHIM in France is 33 3 44 12 52 90  , That's for subscriptions abroad from mainland France . The magazine is edited by an american - Richard Buckley - though for how much longer is anyone's guess as he is the partner of Tom Ford and as Ford is leaving Gucci/Ysl , reportedly quitting Europe for pastures new in Hollywood ,Buckley will  probably follow him , I presume . I myself am interested in Vman , but that certainly has not been on sale in the UK . Only 25000 or so copies were printed of the first edition , I believe . Hope I've been of service   .   Regards  KIT Â

vogues homme is readily available all across the usa and canada (it shows up every spring and summer in the small canadian city i live in so you've got to be able to find in the usa) ... i like how they been adding a cdrom of all the runways shows as a bonus to the magazine

arena homme + is also a good biannual fashion mag along with loaded fashion doing a decent biannual job

german gq puts out a biannual style issue that is very decent as well but in german

vman was decent for a first issue, i'll be curious to see how the second issue goes although i understand that it has already changed editors after one issue, hmmmm
