To, again, be somewhat fair, ~0.0092% of the Denver metro area population even knows what a proper [i.e., not Lauren for Dillard's or Tom James] men's jacket is, so new-ish poster "maker" gets a +1 in my book just for that (and yes, I should know, I moved from Denver recently), even though I hate the jacket.

I suggest you bookmark this page from askandy. There is a chart that tells you based on the colour of your jacket, what colour shirt, pants you can wear. You can then reference this chart not only for the cruise, but when you want to wear another jacket in other situations as well.

What Maker got suckered into is thinking that "Carribbean cruise" means that old man Boca Raton attire (namely, pastels) is what is required. It's not. My own opinion is that "cruise attire" means the following: (1) clothes appropriate for lounging near the pool; (2) clothes appropriate for lounging at the beach; and (3) clothes appropriate for a "smart casual" lunch or dinner during the summer season. If your outfit wouldn't be something you'd consider for a summer dinner at your local bistro, why should it be something you'd consider for your cruise?

I should preface this by saying that cruise, to me, sounds like you are paying to be in a prison on water for 2 weeks or whatever, with occasional (land) reprieve.

That said, if you must, I think that for a cruise, you should dress comfortably. I am not a cruise person, and I happen to hate the heat and the sun, but if I had to deal with those things, I'd wear a lot of linen or linen blend pants, looser than usual, and probably some well fitted, but not fitted, linen and cotton/linen blend shirts. Shoes, I like slip on sneakers if I am just lounging around, and there are a lot of non-"streetwear" alternatives, like the woven ones by Bottega Veneta, but I think that this is one of the few times you have a legitimate excuse to wear boat shoes. Maybe a couple of unconstructed jackets for the evening. Lots of tans and browns, with some blues.

Apropos of that, I once witnessed a barfight between two yupsters at Chez Henri in Cambridge, which used to be my local spot. Anyone who knows that place will understand that it's not a place where any fight could/should be considered serious. These two guys would be been more scary suing each other.
