Fabric Weight for Dress Shirts

Hello,

I have a question about the weight in grams that some shirt makers post online when looking at fabrics. I was looking at 2 different fabrics, the first was a 2ply 100 at 76g and the second was a 2ply 100 at 119g. What does the gram weight tell me about the feel of the shirt? or if anything about it?

I am almost positive that both fabrics were Poplin.

So what you are saying is the lighter weight fabric would then have a thinner thread( less dense) that was used to make up the 100 yarn count, as opposed to a thicker thread (more dense) making the 100 yarn count. Which in turn would make fabrics light, medium, heavy.
