What would be your recommended basic shirt & tie combinations for the wardrobe staples of solid navy suit, and solid charcoal suit? White, light blue, cream and pink would be the classic shirt choices, with maybe light green or lilac as extra choices. What colour and pattern of ties would match best with each suit & shirt combo?

White - Pretty much any shade of blue, grey or burgundy. Black as well.
Light Blue - Darker navy or midnight blue, burgundy, pink, lilac, greens, greys, yellow, orange rust, brown.
Pink - Burgundy (make sure it's true burgundy), various shades of blue.
Lilac - Not particularly popular here, but I happen to like blues here (especially the darker navy / midnight blue colors).

Solids or semi-solids (such as a grenadiine) will always work. Stripes can work as well as can pindots. I tend to go with grenadine, pindots and stripes in that order, but that's just me. YMMV.

I understand in theory what works on light green and cream shirts but don't tend to wear them, so I'd let someone with a bit more experience with these shirt colors weigh in as I feel more comfortable commenting on things I've tried myself.

Light green shirt with dark gray or dull navy tie, but it would be better to avoid light green in most tie-wearing situations.

Cream shirts can go with almost any tie that works with white. Not gold, though. A gold tie can work with white and light blue.

Here are some ideas

Navy and Burgundy Grenadine:

Repp Ties:

Woven Untipped :

Navy with White Pin Dots:

Check or Glen Plaid type:

A Paisley for those tweeds and classic jackets:

Grey Cashmere:

Madras:

Creams:

Pin Stripe Black Wool:

Could also consider an Ancient Madder patterned tie or a knitted tie. The colors you're looking at sound like they're worth looking at... FYI I pulled most of these off Drakes of London, Brooks Brothers, and Google.
