French bullet train hits 356MPH

Good for them. Given how poorly our airline system is running these days, our lack of high speed trains drives me nuts. At regular TGV speeds, I think it would take something like 5 hours to get from New York to Chicago.

Problem is that many of the towns that the trains would have to pass through have laws that prohibit trains from passing through them at high speed.

For example, using one of those bullet trains, you could make Philadelphia part of the NYC Metro area because it would take 20 minutes to get from NYC to Philly; but, most of the NJ towns that you would have to pass through have laws prohibiting trains from passing through at high speed.
