Nothing is new. More than forty years ago, early GT 40s had a similar driveshaft connection problem. Early cars were fitted with Metalastik type Rotoflex couplings of identical design to my Lotus Elan.

Even though the Ford "doughnuts" were relatively massive, the V8's torque ripped through the couplings at an alarming rate. The Colotti and ZF gearboxes of the early cars connected to the driveshafts with these pieces until Ford created a new coupling design.

The Metalastik coupling in the image has a metal retaining band on its circumference until fitted to the car. Once the coupling is bolted in place, the band is removed to allow full twist and flex as the axel/driveshaft moves through each axis.
