Kamakura Shirts - Madison Ave Store - Page 103

Anyone know if at all on average how much do their shirts shrink in the chest ? I ordered some Tokyo slims and they fit almost perfectly out of the box but I worry the chest could be too tight in the future.

I wash in cold water, hang dry and iron. No problems with shrinking at all.

I do exactly the same here without shrinking. If there is any, it's just very minimal and not at all noticeable. I also put it in dryer from time to time to pre-dry (low heat for about 5 to 10 minutes).

Great thanks guys. I'm liking the quality on these shirts for 79 bucks but the white button down I got is pretty thin, almost see through...I can't remember the exact material I ordered but hopefully this isn't the case for all of their white shirts.

tbh for white shirts I now stick to their OCBDs (which are great). Tried 2-3 other fabrics but they were just too thin. I'd say the 300 club ones were acceptable too but too expensive for my work-clothes budget so I just have a couple for nicer occasions

I was planning on picking up the white and navy oxfords in the future so that's a good sign. I wear a suit for work so hopefully it's not that noticeable but it looked like it might be in the mirror.

has anyone tried kamakura's polo shirt, how its quaility?

Just handled them yesterday in the store. The new short sleeves they just got in. They are noticeably, how to put this, crunchy to the touch - light, but rough. The salesman told me that they twist the fibers before weaving which results in a weave that wicks sweat really well so that the shirts wear very cool. He said there was a Japanese term for the processing of the fibers, but he didnt know the English term.

In addition to noting the interesting fabric, the other thing that stuck out to me was the shortness of the sleeves. Start toning those guns . . .

I ordered this button down with leno weave cotton cloth

And this OCBD

I plan on removing the pockets from both shirts, which i usually don't do.  These shirts are not your traditional button downs though.  So i'm going to go a little crazy.

Have you done that before? Does it leave a mark?

I did it to one other shirt, which was not by Kamakura. I did it prior to the first wash, which is what I read to do online. It worked fine. It was, however, quite tedious for me. I will have a tailor do it next time.

Anyone from the US order from the kamakura website recently? I'm wondering how much import duty to expect for 2 shirts if any. I ordered about 3 years ago and didn't get charged any iirc. I know they have a webshop-credit policy to reimburse duties but I'm an infrequent customer and the credits expire.

Also, I'd love to here some reviews on the twill and leno weave shirts

I have one of their twill shirts.  The fabric is very soft.  I will be receiving a leno weave shirt this week or early next.

As far as customs, I've never had an issue.  The only time I've ever been charged customs is when I get stuff shipped fedex.  I don't know why that is.  But Kamakura ships EMS, which ultimately arrives USPS.  No duties on probably five orders for me.

I actually don't think you would get dinged for customs period, if the order is under $200. I usually do two shirts to get free shipping and the order is under 200.

Their shipments via EMS are great. I've ordered over a dozen shirts from Kamakura and have never had an issue with additional fees.

The threshold is now $800 for overseas goods.
