What was the first album/single you bought?

The first you purchased with your own money or money given to you (something you picked out yourself, not a gift). A lot of the younger set probably never bought a single, so just give the album name if that's the case. For me:

Single: Michael Jackson, "Ease on Down the Road" (really aging myself here)
Album: the soundtrack from "Grease"

Errrr, man you are testing my memory there. I think it was Wings' Band on the Run. As far as I'm concerned ts4them - YOU are the younger set, if that makes you feel better.

I hate to confess to this but my first 45 was "Just A Little" recorded by the Beau Brummels. My first LP was a collection of Wagner.

The one I remember is 'Little Earthquakes' by Tori Amos. And it's still one of my favourites.

This is kind of funny but it was Warren G's "G Funk Era" which came out about 13 years ago making me 8 years old. Very nice.

Edit: Was this supposed to mean album as in record? Well, I guess my mom had some tapes when I was really young, but in my lifetime everything has been on CD.

kenny rogers "the gambler"
later on, I read that this was music for people with no taste. not specifically bad taste, mind you, but no taste.

I think that it was around my 12th birthday.

I'm pretty sure it was The Beach Boys, "Endless Summer", followed by "Foreigner 4".

I bought the tape of Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood." The first single (also a tape) was something worse, like Vanilla Ice or Kriss Kross (I had both).

The first CDs I bought were Nevermind and Achtung Baby, purchased with Christmas money from Sam Goody. I remember thinking I had spent a fortune!

). Or maybe it was Front 242's Up Evil - one of the two.

Are you 150 years old?

My first was Green Day - Dookie. I was 10 and my mother had to read the lyrics. I was afraid she wasn't going to let me keep it when she saw that the song "Longview" mentioned masturbation. Luckily, I got to keep the album and revel in its misanthropic glory. Thanks Mom.

Wow, I can't remember the exact first, but here are some of my first purchases as I can best recollect:

Thriller, Michael Jackson
A tape containing various R&B and Rap singles (including Earth Wind and Fire and Run DMC)
Like a Virgin, Madonna
Hangin' Tough, New Kids on the Block
Whitesnake
Hysteria, Def Lepard
Invisible Touch, Genesis
The Simpsons Sing the Blues
Violator, Depeche Mode

I'm sure I've forgotten several of my early favorites, but these are pretty representative of the kind of music I was listening to when I really got into pop music as a pre-teen/adolescent.

I can't remember which one was first but it was either "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House or "Amadeus" by Falco.
