Suit tips for someone with unusual build (long legs, short torso)?

Hey all,

I am considering getting fitted for a suit for job interviews. I'm wary of going into the fitting without knowing something of what I want, so I'm looking for some fashion suggestions.

Here goes: I have very long legs and a short torso. I also have a big belly and wide hips. Combined with the short torso, this basically means I don't really have a well defined waist.

In pants, I wear a 52 inch waist and a 34 inch inseam. I'm about 265 pounds and 6' 3". I'm trying to lose some weight but I don't anticipate it changing my waist measurement more than about 4 inches.

My main concerns are that wearing pants with a longer rise (which I tend to prefer as they are more comfortable) with my shirt tucked in makes my torso look quite short. Also, the jacket I have now doesn't really reach around my belly, and is too small in the shoulders for me to comfortably reach behind me. I get the sense that this isn't a huge deal as most people don't wear their suit jacket closed, but how close should the jacket come to reaching all the way around?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to shirt or suit jacket features that I should look into? I also run very warm and often find myself getting hot in stuffy buildings. What would be the coolest material to wear?

I'd appreciate any advice that anyone can provide. I could use all the help I can get!

Thanks.

you probably should go OTR and mix and match the jacket with some pant separates at a store.

example JCP/macys. probably nordstrom, BB, etc

Having an OTR suit altered for you shouldnt be a problem.  Although you're a big dude, the measurements you gave aren't sideshow freaky unless 50 of those 265 pounds are represented by a hump on your back.  Yet even the charming Igor from the classic horror flicks could be fitted with a jacket which made him look dapper if not downright sexy.  The important thing as I'm sure you know is to lose the weight and don't buy any clothing until you're at a size you plan on maintaining.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the advice and encouragement.

I went to Brooks Brothers yesterday and was a little disappointed. They had my size but only in 2 colors, and they really barely fit much less comfortably. I had hoped that they would take my measurements but it was just trying on off-the-rack suits. I guess that makes sense though. The sales person was nice and professional.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best places to shop for big and tall suitwear? I like some of the stuff at Casual Male XL but the service in-store is a little lacking. I'd like to get my measurements taken.

In this case, Jos. A. Bank Signature Gold probably is a good option. Best as part of a single-item sale.

If you go to Jos. A Bank, make sure that it's during one of their 70% off sales (or something close to that). They have them pretty frequently. Don't get suckered into paying near full price.
