Yves saint laurent

Hey All. I just found a charcoal two-button pinstriped suit at my local thrift shop that fit me pretty well. I recognized the name, Yves Saint Laurent, and it was $8.95 so I bought it. I've read some things on this forum about Tom-Ford-era YSL, but I'd like to know a little about what I'll be wearing (I assume the suit was made before his time). Does anyone have any knowledge on pre-Tom-Ford YSL? The wool felt fairly good, though definately not as soft as some others I've touched. The jacket is at the tailor right now getting the waist taken in and the sleeves shortened a bit, and I forgot to feel for a canvas or fused front (could someone remind me of the proper way of determining this?), so I'm not sure on that matter. The sleeves have 4 buttons and faux button-holes; the pants are creased and have a single pleat. The lining showed some wear, but the outside was near-perfect. So I'm guessing it is maybe 5-10 years old..? Thanks in advance for any help. Ken

It's probably licensed YSL - in the 70s/80s the YSL tag got put on everything, quality be damned. The current Tom Ford line should have "Rive Gauche" on the tag. Licensing is still rife - these days in Asia/far east, you can get horrible YSL print shirts, YSL cigarettes, etc.

Yeah, really didn't look like anything spectacular. The jacket might still make for something nice and casual w/jeans, though. Thanks for the response.
