thanks, I actually ate there about 5 years ago, and liked it alot. I have reservations with a group to Dalmonico's, too.

For a bit less cash, but some inventive food, check out Sylvain. And K-Paul's is certainly a classic- worth visiting for the food, but also because of its role in the rebuilding of New Orleans food.

sorry not to report

nola was fantastic, my favorite meal in town. duck confit pizza, fried chicken with mashed sweet potatos and ham gravy, some not very memorable dessert. sezerac and a rye based cocktail, again not that memorable. the chicken and the gravy were fantastic


breakfast at mothers, twice. had the black ham once, it wasn't as good as its been before, it was cold. what they told me was that it is cold in the early morning (I was there at 7 am) and it heats up over the course of the morning. next day had the debris.


lunch at borubon house, good gumbo, okay chicken. somebody at my office had pre-ordered for me (I had a huge group) so it wasn't special. very good manhatton

dinner at delmonicos, twice. first time service sucked (group of 20 with garanteed tip) second time service was great. food was very good both times, gumbo and pork loin first night, gumbo and cheese plate second night



lunch at comanders palace. yes, I know, I know, but I was taking out an old school guy. food was great, service was exceptional. gumbo (should have had the turtle soup but the gumbo of the day sounded really good) and suckling pig, which was great. mint julip,

Funny- I recall desserts at NOLA being rather generic versus the rest of the menu. I have this hypothesis that most American restaurants feel obliged to cater to/provide the American stereotypical dessert regardless of the rest of their approach to food.
If they're going to do that in New Orleans it had better be the best damned bananas foster ever.

I loved my lunch at commanders. It did feel dated, but the service was fantastic and the food was great. They were willing to give me a trio of the gumbo of the day, the turtle soup, and something else. I'm not a big restaurant dessert person, but the bread pudding souffle was perfect.

A previous resident had left the commanders cookbook in my first apartment and I had always wanted to go...I'd happily go again.

I enjoyed it a lot, and it was (on a previous trip) my wife's favorite place. I'd go again in an instant. I wish I had thought to ask for half portions of the gumbo and the turtle soup.

It's not a shopping destination. Slim pickings and nothing not available in other similar cities.

Ok so far:

Cochon. Worth it, everything we had was good

Sobou for bruch, the PB&J was amazing.

Cafe Adelaide great service but food was okay

Bar Tonique was excellent.

Next up August, NOLA and Herbsaint.

Need to start hitting the "low" stuff like mufallata, gumbo, po-boys, etc. thinking Cochon Butcher for the muf, JW Fina for the po boy but not sure for gumbo etc.
