selling an m3....

Due to me never driving the car I am thinking about selling it

its a 2003 M3 with about 26k on it
mint condition
no ones ever sat on the back seats..the only creases are in the drivers seats.....
engine is so cleanthat it looks new
never been in the snow and has been in the rain maybe twice

kbb retail is around 42k
private party is around 38k

how much should I list it for?

Cuz they dont make the e46 anymore..and it looks literally brand new..almost perfect condition..besides the creases on the driver seat people would think that its brand new

i was thinking at least 40?

Frankly, I don't think it is worth the trouble to list and go deal with all the potential buyers, etc. Instead, sell it to me for 25. Otherwise, if you are not in a hurry to sell, you can always list it slightly higher and move it down over time if it does not get any interest. How are you looking to sell it?

i was thinking of listing it on auto trader and some other online sites

Id love to keep it, but I am probably going to NYU next year and I could never have the car there..and I dont even drive it now..
Plus, since Id bepaying tuition there,(at gw im on a fullride)..i thought id help pay that

In that kind of condition, I'd try to get closer to 42k, and if you can't, you said you have some time, move the price down a bit, until someone bites.

But I'll definately take it off your hands for 20k, hehe, I'm only 18...

What color, options, and location is your car? That would be helpful in determining the price and how fast it would sell... There are a number of different strategies for selling all based on how fast you want to sell the car. Good luck! BTW, for $20k, I'll give you cash! :-)

I'll pay 25k and I'll even pick up locally.

What's the maintenance record on it? Dealer serviced only? Have you kept a log? Did you have the rod bearing recall performed?

Unfortunately these cars aren't really retaining their value like they should at this point. I'd hope for mid 30's and settle for maybe 33-34k.

Well heres the low down mid 30's is too low, Kbb is around 40 The car is in perfect condition. The only creases in any of the seats are on the drivers side. Back seats, trunks never been used. Dealer serviced only..warranty till2009 yes its the extended warranty because of the rod bearing recall which was taken care of I live in Washington D.C./Maryland area all records intact, not a single scratch on the car it looks brand new Its got a moonroof, cdplayer, premium wheels no navigation though 25 thousand miles on it never red lined almost like buying a brand new car

Why do you own a car like that but then never drive it?

Well, I live in the city and besides the weekends I dont find any use for it. Ihad it beacuse I was commuting to the city from VA. Now I am living there so I dont need it and I would have it here for the weekends but I dont think that paying 250 bucks of rent would be worth it

Also when I was commuting, I would pay 50 bucks a month to some old lady who would let me park it inher private garage. Ive never parked it on the street in dc. And I wouldnt take it out clubbbing or anting like taht either in some parts around here..so theres no point

I barely drive it when I go home. I love the car though. IDK its my favorite car and Id love to keep it but its just sitting there and tution for NYU next year needs to be paid in full because myscholarship wont transfer over...

Little off topic and I'd understand if you don't wanna anwser but might I ask how old you are? All this talk about universities and the like, makes me think you can't be older than like 20 something. And it sounds like you have more than 1 car if you never use this one. Lol sorry about that coming out of the blue but I'm always intrigued by people younger than 30 with something like a newer M3.

A few months ago I sold my M3. I decided to trade it in because I've found most interest in M3s is among younger men who like to explore the redline area of the tachometer. I didn't want to deal with fielding calls and giving test drives to that group. Here's an option -- sell it to CarMax. CarMax will offer to buy any late-model car in decent condition, for cash. A friend of mine did it for his Land Rover LR3 and was amazed at the great price they offered (he tookd the cash).
