The Official Classic Men's Coats Thread - Page 8

This is true, but that isn't the primary purpose of the pockets on overcoats. As on suit and sportcoats, the overcoat pockets are for holding things, and things can easily fall out of vertical slit pockets. If gloves aren't enough warmth for you, you might want to consider slit hand warmer pockets chest high and flap pockets lower down. I haven't seen that on more formal overcoats, but it is common enough on casual and technical-wear coats.

^ Ok, that's a bit funny looking to be honest. Would slant flapped pockets be a good compromise? I guess they would need to be at least 45deg in angle.

Not a big deal either way. My current overcoat of 10years has slit slant pockets. Have never lost anything from them, though I would only keep my gloves or scarf in those pockets. Cell phone and wallet go in the inside pockets. Which for single breasted inside pockets are not that hard to access...for double breasted a bit more of any issue...

Any good & affordable outerwear / deals right now? Something that can go with a suit on work day or jeans on an evening out.

What would be a good one (Trench, Down, Top, Duffle, Pea) Coat that works well with a Suit for work day and also with a Dark Jeans on a night out?
