Formal party, no time for a tux - Page 2

^ That's great to hear Rob! Well done! Just curious, what was it about the other guys' outfits that was lacking? The fit? The ties?

In your initial post, you mention you hate your ties. Please follow Will's advice, and read this short post: http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/2012/05/basic-neckties.html?m=1

Oh, and I also agree with Will when he says blue neckties are the most useful of all. I once heard someone say that blue is the colour of choice for three quarters of Italian men, considered by some to be the best dressed anywhere. http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/2010/07/in-praise-of-dark-blue-neckties.html?m=1

Will's website is brilliant. Enjoy it!

Thread Starter

There were plenty of guys in tuxedos, and they looked fine. It was the guys in suits that seemed to break every rule you all so gently identified. :)

Fit was a big one. They had really baggy suits. I never noticed that before now. There were also some incredibly bad colors. A brown suit REALLY looks bad among so many black suits and tuxes.

I have to admit, I never looked at anyone's shoes even once. Heh.

Was a GREAT party. Thanks again everyone for the advice!

I just wanted to note that this thread was pleasant to read in that it was not the train wreck that so many 'black suit' threads become. Props to the OP for framing the situation with the right details and keeping an open mind. Props to the respondents who did so without the snark, and with a good deal of understanding and information.

Cheers.
