SF Consensus Request - Lapel Flowers

What is the consensus among this population on lapel flowers?  Good accessory if done correctly and worn when appropriate?  Egregious mistake?

 I want to try it but I have to have a loop sewn on beneath the lapel to hold the flower in position on some of my favorite jackets.

 

 Go for it!

I am hesitant.  My wife is a bridesmaid in a wedding coming up in the spring.  I may try it then.

I like to wear them by opportunity. As in, if I see a flower I like, I'll take it and put it in my lapel then go about my day. I don't ever really put one on before leaving the house.
